Metal Clip Mesa Boogie Mark IV - Testament: Low

Can the Mesa Boogie Mark IV do metal convincingly? After playing around I would say that it definitely has major potential for heavier types of music.

I recorded this really quick tonight. I plugged in my Schecter and hit record over the backing track. I'm not sure if I mixed the levels right but I will let you be the judge.

Does it sound alright? I like the tone I dialed in for metal types of music. I know the original was recorded with a Triple Rectifier but the Mark IV more than hold its own.

Keep these clips up and you're going to drive the prices up even more, the kiddies will start buying up the Mark IV's!
 
The Mark IV is a total metal machine. :cool: It's easily one of the most versatile amps out there.

I hope that doesn't happen, it's best that the youngsters continue to think that the Mark IV is only capable of vintage hard rock voicings and gain levels and doesn't have enough gain for core music. :)

Teh Cores will not be able to figure out how to tweak it :lol: The kids I used to jam with could not believe what the "old man" amp could do :D

The clips sounds great, do you have the drive and gain pulled?

Maybe a little directional/isolated if anything...

I'm pretty sure Metallica used them for years, so yeah, metal is in there, in spades. :rock:

I was just talking to Code001 about why nobody ever mentions Nevermore's Politics of Ecstasy album when people talk about heavy Mark IV tones. That album is all Mark IV and it doesn't get much heavier than that.
 
Dude thats the tone I have in my head! Sounds just like the album! Can you post some settings, or tips on how you got it? You didn't boost or anything? I use a mark III and have been trying to get that tone. Any advice for me?

That's not my intention but I know that happens sometimes. I know that upsets the individuals who want them on the used market for a lower cost.

Yes, they were pulled. The clip was boosted with a Maxon OD9. To me, that's what sends it to a more modern metal place. The amp has a good mix of vintage and modern voicing going on. I was going to record the same clip without the boost for comparison but didn't have time to do it. I will if anyone is interested.

I did not know that. I thought he used a 2 channel Dual Rectifier. Cool information!

Here are my settings (Lead Channel):

Lead Gain- 7 pulled
Treble- 6.5
Bass- 2
Mid- 3
Lead Drive- 7.5 pulled
Presence- 3
Master- 3
Output Level- 3
Graphic EQ:
80hz- 1/4 inch above the middle line
240hz- sitting just above the middle line
720hz- 1/4 inch below the middle line
2200hz- sitting just above the middle line
6600hz- sitting just above the middle line

My Rocktron Xpression supplied the delay for the lead and a Dunlop Crybaby. I mixed a Shure 57 and Sennheiser e609 over my Bogner Oversized 2x12 into an M-Audio Mobile PRE USB and recorded with N-Track 5 Studio. Maxon OD9 at Gain off and Level set at about 3 o'clock. No post EQ whatsoever. Recorded it with my Schecter Hellraiser with EMG 81.

Yes, I miss the CLX. Love that amp. The Mark IV has connected with me really quick however. They are both very good amps.
 
that was sweet man. I love that song...whole album actually. tone was great, playing was great - backing lacked, but that's not your doing. if it was me, I woulda dialed in a tad more mids, but that's just my taste.
