I don't care about the direct recording feature. How is it as a stand alone preamp into a quality tube power amp ?

Owned one and hated it.

I can usually find things I like about just about any amp I own, but I thought it was a piss poor attempt at Recto tone.

FWIW, I ran it with a VHT 2/90/2

Maybe it just wasn't a good match with the VHT ?

Anything is possible, but in my experience VHT poweramps make everything sound better.

I completely retubed the Recto preamp as well and it still sounded like ass to me.

FWIW, you will RARELY see me say anything negative about any amp. I usually like SOMETHING about all of them. Found no redeeming qualities on the Recto preamp.

If you want Recto tone in a preamp package, I suggest the Triaxis (I am not a huge Triaxis fan, but I would take one over the Recto pre in a heartbeat) or a Randall RM4 with the Recto module.

I love mine. I run it into the 2:100 and my tin-ass metal ears likes it.

I think it really shines as a direct recording tool. But it is a good rack preamp too... for me at least.

I would change a couple things about it, but I think the sound/tone is fine.

What are you going for?

Meh... what do I know..... not the first timeI was the odd man out on an opinion, but I wouldn't take one if it were given to me. :P :D

You could always pick up a Ractifier. Just putting that out there.

I looooooove the Ractifier. Quite possibly the best of the whole Recto line

I heard one through a few different poweramps including the Mesa Rectifier rack poweramp, the Mesa 295 and some other I forget offhand. I prefer the sound of the Dual Rectifier and generally agree with Tony. I was actually surprised to discover that, since I figured it should sound as good as the Dual Rectifier head when used with a Rectifier rack poweramp. I'd also used some other preamps (including the Triaxis) through the same poweramps (and used the same cabs) and liked their sound, so I doubt the poweramps or the cabs would be to blame. I suppose the specific tubes in the preamp might have been to blame...I only got to use it in a store.

I've never had a chance to play one, but I really want to. After I get my gear situation settled, a ractifier will be on my list of toys to try out, for sure.

BTW, thanks again for those cables! Above and beyond what I payed, really. Your a fine (and possibly crazy) bloke for sending me all of that

If you can try one, I highly reccomend it. I have owned well over 20 Recto's of all varieties (except a Roadking) and the Ractifier i had was the best along with the Voodoo Modded 2 channel I had.

Glad you like the cables.... the idea wasn't to make $$ on it (obviously!!!), but to help someone out who may need them ;)
