Don't let your pride get in the way of going out and having fun and making some money....unless you think it's a trap. ;)

Good words there Ralph, it could be your turn to use them in a way to make some extra scratch and now you have them over a barrel.

HOw many guys can they call that are somewhat ready and have your chops? ;)

Cha Ching.

I'm not even going to call today lol! I'm going to e-mail him and tell him my answer ROTFLMAO! :rawk:

I had the same thing happen to me....it's amazing how gutless some people are, where they can't man-up, pick up a phone, and tell someone the truth. I say fuck em.....fuck right in their stupid asses.

As some of you might already know, about 6 months ago I was asked to play in a coverband because the original guitarist left. I said yes and I learned 40 tunes in less then a month for the gig. With that said, the original guitar player asked to come back in the band and I got the shaft.

Now fast forward to today. I get a message on my answering machine from the singer of the band telling me that its not working out again with the old guitar player and he asked if would I be interested in the gig.

I'll let you guess what my answer is going to be :D

Discuss!!! :D

Tell them to pull your finger.

ok well now i know all the other info, i would tell em to fuck off!!

It's amazing isn't it? The funny thing is that I'm the easiest guy in the world to talk to. All they had to do is let me know that the other guy wanted to come back in the band and I would have said, no problem!
I actually love the other guitar players playing!

I guess there gameplan was to keep me learning the set just incase he flaked out on them, so I kind of see why they didn't let me know sooner, but I would have been cool with that if they told me what was going on.

ahh no biggy! I really would have no problem doing the gig if I liked playing covers, but since I don't, It's easy for me to say no!!

Tell them that you are interested, but give them YOUR set list of 40 songs and tell them to learn it in 2 weeks or you aren't interested. If they do indeed learn them, blow them off at the last minute.

What else are you doing? If you 'aint giggin', swallow yer pride and go play some gigs. you know you are better. After a couple gigs, they'll know too. Then quit on them...

ROTF! Yes!

Howdy Gents!! Thanks for the Ideas and Comments!!

Now here is the deal. I should have given you guys a bit more info. I don't really enjoy playing covers that much. It's fun to get out there and play but I’m not the type of guy who has to play out all the time. I have friends who go stir crazy if they don’t play but I’m lazy, so I could care less lol :D These guys are great at what they do and I would be playing every weekend and although my girlfriend says that she is cool with It, I’m sure her tune would change after a while and I don't need the added drama lol :D

To add insult to injury and to also give you a bit more insight, No one in the band ever apologized about how they handled the situation. They were up my ass to learn the set and they kept in touch with me and gave me a lot of cool pep talks to get ready for the band and then I heard nothing!!. It didn’t take a rocket scientist to know that something was up when the calls stopped lol :D. I knew something was wrong but I played dumb and I kept calling the guys to see when they wanted to do a test rehearsal and they were still blowing me off.
No one ever called me to officially let me know that there old guitar player wanted back in the band. The let me know that the other guy came back by E-mail because they were to chicken shit to pick up the phone. Even after all of that crap I am still friends with the guys but had they handled the situation better, I would not be posting this !!!!

I’m done with the cover band thing.

Thanks again everyone!

If that's the case, show them the same courtesy they showed you and do not even bother responding via a phone call or e-mail. Let them call again. If they are still interested, you can pretty much name a price that will make it worth your while.

If you are not interested and don't respond, they should get the picture and look elsewhere. If they do catch you on the phone, tell them you didn't think they were serious about it based on the way they treated you earlier (a not so subtle dig at that them).

Based on the fact that you posted this here, I think deep down you are a little bit interested.

i had a real similar situation with a band i tried out for a while back

they were guys i'd known for sometime, and i told them straight up just to be honest with me no matter what...nothing they could've said about my playing, skill level, etc. woulda hurt my feelings

they ended up kinda blowing me off, and finding someone who was clearly better suited for the job than i was...which i was totally cool with, but a simple phone call saying "hey we don't think you're what we're looking for" would've been the way to tell me; instead they kinda invited me back for a few more practice sessions that never quite worked out

they're all good dudes, and i'm still friends with em...it just sucks when people are afraid to be honest with ya; and they all knew me (or so i thought) well enough to know i'm an easy guy to talk to, and i don't mind any kinda criticizm

I remember when you first posted about this situation, so I'm going to say that you will turn them down and tell them they had their chance and can fuck off :)

Not to mention they wasted your time learning all those songs, totally unacceptable

That is a tough thing to swallow. Unless the songs learned were ones he wanted to learn, anyway, 40 songs is enough work to learn (especially if learned pretty well) to fully warrant someone being rightfully pissed off, IMO.

This situation is very enviable.

You have some leverage. Proper ass-kissing is due.
