There are so many amazing Pantera riffs, I almost can't pick one of theirs.

I've always thought Napalm Death - Breed To Breathe was several minutes of riffing filth. Intro, verse & chorus riffs are all amazing.

There's WAY heavier shit on that album. Breed To Breathe is actually one of the least heavy on the album! KILLER album!

I'd have to say Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath set the bar.

Man, I always knew Pantera dug in some heavy riffs, but I started giving them a new listen, just right before Vinnie died. I was mostly interested in Vinnies style of drumming & letting things breath, but I really got into just how FUCKING HEAVY Pantera guitar riffs really are. Put that together with the heavy power of Vinnie & the rest band & youve got some stuff that really can put you on the floor.

I eat my words on FFWF. A New Level by Pantera wins. Heavy AF!

Any riff by RATM ... even though they are not really a metal band but I think the riffs are pretty heavy :)

Was gonna mention these guys - their "riffs" are heavy, low and fucking grooving....deep and thumping.

All this new kick-drum-clickety-click-cookie-monster-lyric shit doesn't cut the muster IMHO.

Some classic and contemporary heavies (in no particular order):

Why thank you, Good Sir...

Another few honourable mentions in the simple but crushing riffage department:

RATM were one of the bands I listened to on repeat in my teens.

Check out this really early gig they did in '91.

Christ I still listen to them to this day... Had this one cranked while lounging at my pool yesterday on the earbuds:

It's their use of the octave switch to low in sync with the bass that gives them this incredible running deep heavy groove when it all comes together. Love Zach's signing style too. Love 'em.

I think Phil actually wrote that guitar riff.

SLAAAAYYYYERRRRR!!!!! ;) Bought that when it came out and still listen to it on a somewhat regular basis.

The Wizard is one of the most fun songs to play I've ever learned. Just love it!!
