Topic is “Objectification and Branding of Women in the Guitar World”

This was brought up because there is a new amp coming out that has a picture of a woman on the logo.
Blasphemy!

Are we really heading into this direction where people need to actually be bubble wrapped?

I don't expect you to understand the nuance of the discussion. And that's all it is is a discussion / polling of people's opinions of topics related to the severe gender imbalance in the guitar community -- not a preaching thing and not so directly related to the amp. Why do women make up like < 5% of the electric guitar community? Should make you wonder. And frankly any decent person should be in favor of getting rid of shitty threads and comments on youtube videos and the like of thirsty, lonely men who seem to have accidentally wound up critiquing women guitar players instead of digging their playboys out of the attic.

But I'm not going to discuss that here. For those that are not banned on SSO, that is what that thread is for. Not all threads need to be copy/pasted to other forums, kind of defeats the point of separate forums.

Just read that first page on the other forum. Something to debate about,i guess.

But sex sells. Most men will always be attracted to pictures of beautiful women.

I admit that i REALLY wanted a fucking fucker amp. Seriously. It was unlike anything out there.

Shouldn’t you be scoping out your next piece of furniture? Or are you saving up for that state of the art sex robot for when you move to Japan?

Ah, sorry. Since you said you will be "placing an order for the amp tomorrow", I guess you'll be proving me wrong in a few months when you post your new amp.

Not 100% clear on what you're trying to accomplish by rehashing that info here. I already know you spend your time finding and reading my posts on other guitar forums...that's kind of why this is so sad. I've never really heard of stalkers having rich, fulfilling lives, so maybe you'd be happier replacing "narad time" by maybe getting a girlfriend or a hobby. You could even find, on this very website, some resources to help you learn how to play an instrument.

FWIW, I build robots, not buy them.

  yes I really need to prove to you that I can afford that amp...look out for that NAD.

So you are the people who will be responsible for the end of humanity... the libtard robot builders.

Which ones are you building? The killer robots? The one that takes people’s jobs away? Or the one that gives a blowjob?

The ones that perform autonomous surgery and assist in elderly care. But I'll let you know when that blowjob one's ready for purchase.

We should just start a forum for the OP to make personal attacks against people who disagree with him so we don't have to read this shit.

Look someone getting butthurt over a "smart belle" or whatever amp because of gender inequality in the guitar playing community is very stupid. These are middle aged dudes marketing dumble clones to the exact same demographic. I doubt anyone getting offended or is younger than 35 has any intention of buying the amp in the first place. :scared:

Gender inequality will happen regardless of "misogyny", me personally I would love to have more women playing guitar. I mean we have gender inequality when it comes to collectiong Barbie dolls or knitting or hair dressing. Also there is the same in auto mechanics, welders and HVAC technicians. I mean that is just how it is.

Getting offended by a drawing of a female to market an amp is like... well just looking for shit to get offended about. Remember when everyone playing guitar was on the same side and we had the nutty religious right saying we were Satanist and we were spreading the devil's work?

Now a days it seems like we are own worst enemies. Oh my God, that inlay on that guitar could be considered racist! Oh my God! that fake drawn woman used to market an amp could be considered perpetuating sexist stereotypes!

People talk about the death of electric guitar and want to lay blame on hip hop or pop or media etc.. but if anyone is to blame it is the infighting within our own group.

Seriously gender inequality? Guitar playing? Cartoon offensive? Really?

Ahh shucks, you're going to put Whowantsamustache out of a job with that blowjob robot. You should make a mexican model just to add more insult to his injury

Anyhow, can't believe I'm agreeing with Whowantsablowjob, but yeah that thread of them crying about the aircraft pin up girl logo on the amp is some pansy ass shit, haha.

So as OP in that thread let me clarify some things:

1.) no one's butthurt. It's a subforum for off-topic discussion, the main topic being "why are there so few women guitar players?" and putting out there that rock/metal guitar has historically been very objectifying and male-centric in advertising. It's clear why that is: that community is primarily male. But then the question is whether catering to the male market then having an effect in the opposite direction. The amp is a very tiny, tiny piece of all that -- it's more just like, it's 2018, we're still doing this? It's just a jumping off point.

2.) the general rule about inequality and judgements about what's offensive or demeaning is that you have to ask whatever group that's targeting. So a bunch of dudes don't get to sit around and decide whether something is making women feel uncomfortable, making them second guess getting involved, or having an unpleasant experience.

3.) I have an odd spot in this debate. I would have originally, maybe a couple years ago, have thought, oh yea, that's just the way the guitar community is. There's no need to try to make it a more welcoming community to particular groups -- it's just guitar, if you like it, pick it up.

However, I work in academic computer science departments. We have roughly the same issue -- girls have some initial interest in computer science, and you put them in an extremely gender unbalanced population with a bunch of weirdos in total control of their local CS community/experience, and you get people dropping out and just not having fun with it. So we (nationwide, basically) have been taking much more explicit steps that I'm sure almost everyone here would scoff at, and it's made a huge difference. Stanford has nerdy ol' CS as the #1 major choice for women now. It's probably not a coincidence that they have established one of the most welcoming communities for women in CS.

I'm not saying the situation is identical in the guitar world, but it's probably a far cry from being irrelevant, so I threw it out there to discuss. So if you say you would personally love more women in the guitar community, you know, then I would say do something about it. Or at least not shoot down a discussion about what one might do to help make that happen. Everyone says they'd love to have more women in the community, but then criticize any attempt to have a discussion about it. That's not logical.

I'm used to people taking a discussion of a complex issue and simplifying it down to some right-vs-wrong polarizing thing, and claiming butthurt for even trying to have a discussion about it. I'm used to this other guy crying to the rest of the guitar forums because he can't post about it where I'm posting about it. But to be clear: there's no butthurt, there's no right-vs-wrong, there's no "we should do this", etc. No one's offended and no one's out looking to be offended. It's just a discussion on a guitar thread about the guitar community, and mainly one with the intent of asking the opinion of girl guitar players about their feelings of the online guitar community. I knew there wouldn't be many, sadly I don't think we found any.

Really the only butthurt person in that entire discussion is the with the guy that rage-posts about it on other guitar forums...

And yes I am so buthurt over all this. What ever will I do...

Never been on that site but some of these Male guitar players posting in that thread need some serious testosterone supplements!

Most of them have been through some sort of programming throughout their education. I’m guessing it was something like this.

Hi I’m narad. I was brainwashed during my higher education. Now I am a robot. I have a robot brain. I work for google and censor speech with AI algorithms. I believe in corporate media, which is owned by foreign multinationals, that Russia influenced the election. (Irony)

Do you also work for CNN? Because nowhere in my statement did I say anything remotely close to what you just said. But way to twist reality.

1. I never said you were well educated. I said you were brainwashed during your higher education.

2. I never said you have a good job. I said you are a robot. And have a robot brain. And I speculated that you work for google writing AI algorithms censoring free speech. Wow great job, if that really was your job...douche.

3. I never said you are well informed because you read the news. I said you trust corporate media which is owned by foreign multi-nationals and at the same time believe that Russia influenced the election. Failing to see the irony of the foreign influence on an election which they impose. Hence the irony.

Once again the robot doesn’t compute.

Please continue to read the news from Washington Post, owned by the richest man in the world. And the NY Times, owned by Mexico’s richest man. Or how about CNN which is owned by one of largest land owners of USA.

They all have the public’s best interest at hand...

Please continue to read the news from Washington Post, owned by the richest man in the world. And the NY Times, owned by Mexico’s richest man. Or how about CNN which is owned by one of largest land owners of USA.

And I take it you use the “Can’t be brainwashed during your higher education if you don’t have one!” defense?

Look I don’t know where you got the idea that I’m a particularly political person or that I care deeply about this stuff. I’ve got other stuff to read and I try not to waste all that time reading politics, when I’m not actively participating in it, regardless of who’s in office. Yes, it’s sad when someone with such low integrity and few admirable qualities is put forth as the best candidate to lead the country, or to watch him roll back policy/back out of arrangements that would have made the world a better place. But as you realized from reading all my SSO posts, I’m moving to Tokyo. I’ve spent half my adult life between Sydney, Cambridge, and Tokyo, and if these decisions make life as an American a bit rougher, it effects me about as much as it affects the average Brit, Japanese, or Australian.

I think the real question is why you, someone who obviously gets bent to hell and obsessed over politics, is arguing politics online with someone who doesn’t care. And we all know by now that you're super butt-hurt about getting banned from SSO that one time, but grow up and get the fuck over it. I don’t think you’re going to be on your deathbed thinking, “man, I wish I had just one more Obama meme to show Narad”. If you care about the political process, get out there and participate in it and be a part of making a difference. Even if your political views are wack and I don’t agree with them, better that someone does something fulfilling with their life / somehow leave a positive mark on the world. There’s nothing admirable about a little man posting pre-packaged political meme arguments on guitar forums — it just shows you have nothing valuable to otherwise be doing with your life. Go find something more valuable to do, because life is short and I guarantee at the end it you’re not going to be wishing you spent more of it trolling internet forums.

Well when over 90% of professors in higher education are left leaning liberals, it’s safe to say yes higher education is a brainwash.

And keep denying the fact that your sources of news are biased and have a leftist agenda. Who also happens to be owned by some of the richest most powerful men in the world. And also have ties to foreign multi-nation investors.

Yes, my sources of news are typically run by foreign investors as they are largely foreign media outlets. I don't get my news from the places you cited, but this is kind of a red herring in the discussion: a reporter cannot entirely separate themselves from what they report on. Every source of news will contain bias -- to pretend yours is unbiased (vs. conservatively biased) is ignorant.

This is equivalent of a bunch of native english speakers from various areas getting together and one repeatedly saying, "You! You have an accent! Admit it!"

btw, as far as professors go, if you think politics comes up in a computer science or engineering curriculum at all, then you have not studied these at a university. And scientists are always in battle against conservative social and faith-based values, so it's entirely obvious why academic institutions would have larger numbers of left-leaning faculty. Conservatives get to power and academic funding is cut. Is it a conspiracy why few academics would be conservative? Many departments even have policy against politics in the classroom.

What a load of BS. If you think I’m going to believe that University professors don’t pump out next generation libtards then I would like to buy some land in Chernobyl from you as well.

The top social media companies are openly censoring conservatives and allowing libtards to say whatever the hell they want and get away with it. For example they let people openly threaten the president and allow people to say kill cops.

It has been exposed with hidden cameras on Twitter employees for example that they shadow ban conservatives, meaning let them post but no one sees it. Or ban them and close their accounts outright.

And you still don’t get my point about foreign influence from the MSM. They were 100% in favour of Killary. So is that not foreign meddling in an election when they influence the masses on who they think you should vote for?

The fact that you think being libtard is neutral and has nothing to do with politics is outstanding. You think you are always right and that my friend is your problem.

Who you should really step back and evaluate your life. It's clear you have no friends and don't have much going for you. You stalk multiple people on several forums you've been banned from. You have been told no politics here over and over and that's all you post about. Do you even play guitar or have a hobby? It's clear no one here likes you, why are you here and not a politics forum? Is it that the rules don't apply to you or are you just too stupid to get them?

Says the guy who always has something to say in my posts, but is usually just the same libtard bs. Aren’t you the one stalking me? Go back to 24/7 Gab talk buddy. Someone just got a new peavey amp and they are just dying for some attention from you.

For real, dude. Liberals coming out of college were liberals going into college, and the biggest probably is simply what that liberal/conservative ratio going into college looks like. And of course this logic completely overlooks that all conservative leaders and representatives, with few exceptions, went to university.

I don't know what this has to do with _anything_ but obviously they don't ban all conservative accounts and it's still the go-to outlet for the president so... I mean, Twitter has policies against trolling and hate speech, and it's really clear from this thread that you have no problem trying to steer every conversation (on a guitar forum) into something political, in violation of the stated content policy of this very site. This leads me to believe that when it comes to Twitter, you think it's unfair when many people violate policy and are banned or their posts demoted (the latter Twitter admits to, however it is via an algorithm -- things like "libtard", probably going to be a good feature for said algorithm).

Your point? No, having media outlets put a liberal or conservative spin on things is not meddling in an election. It's not close to meddling, by definition. Purposely creating false news stories to sway public opinion, and then the vote -- that's meddling. It has intent, and aims to change people's behaviors based on lies. By and large major news outlets are not going to be seriously guilty of these, regardless of how they lean. Social media reporters, fake accounts, and people blinding retweeting things withotu fact-checking are.

Whowantsamustache wrote:

I never said or implied that being liberal was neutral. Please read. But please don't respond. I think I've been clear on this: I don't have much desire to talk politics. I don't have any desire to talk politics with you. And I absolutely am not going to continue to talk politics with you here, on a guitar forum, and a different one than where I already posted! So peace out guy, move on, find something productive to do or someone that wants to talk to you.

Dude you are libtarded.

The fact that you just said the MSM doesn’t create false news stories is enough for me to just laugh at you and end this right now.

Good bye.

Only problem with that is it'd shrink their already-barely-visible balls... if indeed they have any at all.

Anyway...

Running clips (quotes) out-of-context seems to be the lowest-hanging fruit, the go-to M.O. for the MSM.

Even subtle, seemingly-unimportant things like when Trump fed the Koi in Japan. They showed him tossing the entire remaining contents of the pellet box he was given into the water in one movement, suggesting that he's careless and disrespectful of foreign customs... and the fish.

The truth of the matter is that he was the one tossing it in dribs and drabs, and the Japanese prime minister chucked his in holus-bolus and gestured for Trump to follow suit, which he did out of respect (when in Rome).

Most folks wouldn't have noticed this, but the standard video being run on the MSM worldwide suddenly pixellated a fair bit when it came to the few seconds where he tossed the food. This was because in constructing the footage they zoomed in in order to exclude the PM so as not to reveal his taking the lead. Talk about pathetic, underhanded, dishonest, trivial manipulation... but it all counts toward the narrative. I consider it a fluke that I stumbled across the unedited footage; had I not, I might well have shaken my head and thought, "Well, he's his own man".

When you ask someone what he believes, it's usually impossible for him to relate every exposure that brought him to his position; it's the cumulative effect of these underhanded, "subtle" manipulations, coupled with sporadic, punctuated episodes of truth (Trump provides plenty of ammo for them), that ensure the desired results. Was it Hitler who said that the best way to tell a lie is to mix it in with a little bit of truth, and that the greater the lie, the more-likely it is to be believed? Not suggesting that the latter aspect is necessarily-relevant here, but it's an interesting phenomenon nevertheless. It makes sense when you think about it - a minor distortion of well-known facts is immediately-obvious to everyone. The further you venture into the unknown, the less-useful any known reference can be for comparison.
