Hi all Diezel fan boys and girls out there.. just wanna know has anybody tired the new TAD EL34STR redbase into their Herbie? i like prefer the old shuguang TAD EL34BSTR after popping those into my Herbert mk2 and it sound just clearer than the JJs KT77 without the tone sounding weak with the mids its fuller but unlike any other EL34s ie: EH and mullards... the tone remains tight like the JJ KT77 without the Sizzle fuzzy top end am getting on my Herbie with the JJ KT77 and with the JJ KT77 its abit more greasy and compressed...

anybody whos a fan of TAD EL34BSTR tired the new redbase STRs yet? if so how you guys find the new redbase to be? cleaner clearer tighter without top end sizzle and full as an EL34 should be ?

The TAD EL34-STR sound more agressive in the highs and high mids with full low mids but way less sub bass than the EL34B-STR.
Interesting comment. To be honest, I have an older Diezel VH4s from 2003, that was upgraded to 2007 specs later by the man himself. While I really appreciate that it is more on the darker side, I have some trouble to dial down the sub bass range without sacrificing the body of the sound. On top there is a cut in the high mids which I really felt only once I played a Bogner Helios. Two different animals for sure, but the Diezel could need some of the Helios character. If those tubes are the ticket, I might give it a try and report back.

Sorry for the bump but I got a test of the red base vs Tung sol EL34B and have the new Shuguang el34b’s in 2 weeks so I can compare all 3 of them in my Diezel lil Fokker if wanted.
I agree what is being said about the TAD red base EL34 but I do notice the bass is a bit muddy but can be related to burn in time the tube needs.
The Tung Sol is more clear to my ears and might help better with the darker character of the Diezel VH amps.
For a TAD EL34b-str red base vs Tung Sol EL34b comparison in the room sound see/hear:

Hope this helps a bit as I’m also always trying to get the best out of my Lil Fokker ?

So I received the new Shuguang EL-34B quad today from AliExpress.
71€ including shipping and a matched set. Not bad :)

I compared the TAD EL34-STR Red Base which were in then against the new produced Shuguang EL34B.
Both are from China but I think the TAD’s are from Psvane?
Anyhow: physically they differ: the TAD’s are longer but also thinner than the Shuguang’s.
Sound wise: the TAD’s have a bit more clarity but they have been used a bit longer and one thing I’ve noticed is that the bottom end seems deeper but also more fuzzy and not as tight as the Shuguang’s.
The Shuguang’s got 30-40 minutes playtime so not really a good comparison but I already noticed they can sound like the TAD’s by just eq-ing them a bit: more presence and a bit more lows.
They have tighter lows and I expect that after a couple of days they will sound warmer.
Overall I’m very happy with the sound of these cheap Shuguang EL34B’s. Also they came perfectly matched so that is also nice.
They are also half of price of the TAD red base versions so that is also to consider.

I try to post some pictures of the tubes and a YouTube in the room sound so you can compare them yourself.
