1981 Mesa Boogie Mark IIB (loop modded) by Mike B. at Mesa. This little vintage jewel is the sought after HRGX with the RP9C (highest gain) preamp board. The massive power transformer allows notes to ring clearly and with a 3D like tone.
Mike B serviced and modded this IIB in 2023 to make it to sound closest to a IIC+. The mod moves the effect loop to another place in the board to allow space to add another gain stage while at the same time enhancing the effect loop with 0 degradation to the signal. The result is a fantastic sounding loop, transparent for all your time based effect and an added gain stage. It sounds like a vintage IIC+. Plenty of gain to use from classic rock to high gain metal. It also has a FANTASTIC (natural form IIB) clean sound for jazz or blues. I’ve owned about a dozen IIC+ so I know my way around these vintage marks. It’s loaded with NOS square getter C8 (V2 and V3) for maximum clarity and with 4X 6L6 in the power section.
I will include all the paper work from Mesa (See last picture). If you have any questions don’t hesitate to reach out.
