Best metal combo amp

I always liked the 5150 2x12 60 watt combos. But that's not exactly downsizing.

Generally speaking, combos aren't great for metal. You might be better off just getting a smaller/lighter cabinet - like a 1x12 with neodinirasihdjnfaoijf speakers or whatever, that you feel sounds good with your heads.

If you really want to downsize? Get an Axe III or kemper rack and a power amp. That is stupid light.

I've not been impressed with many of the high gain combos i've tried, if I'm being real here. The SLO30 one was okay? I think I played a naylor combo that was killer but that cost more than a car. The DSL ones I have never been impressed with. They have a new invective if you like to djent?

Not that heavy , I’d say nails , Eyehategod , more sludge hardcore stuff ,

What about a super reverb and a pedal then?

If i was playing slow sludgy stuff I would be looking for a cleaner amp that takes dirt pedals well, for bigger headroom and dynamics

Hod rod deville 2x12 plus pedals?

Peavey Mace?

Honestly anything that sounds good for heavy stuff is going to be just as big and heavy as your head and cabinet rig unless you go digital dude lol

1500 bucks could probably get you a SF Twin and a new set of EVM's to go with it if you prowled CL for the amp. Tube rectified on the Super vs SS rectified on the Twin if he needs extra power or punch. Both are great amps. I thought long and hard about getting a Super before ultimately grabbing a Twin. Like a moron I always default to big and loud lol. A Twin is heavier, but still easier to load in the trunk than a Super.

Yeah if you're autistic about getting a combo because you've convinced yourself its going to be easier to carry, I don't think it matters either way. Might as well get a quad reverb or super 6 lol

It doesn't work like that though, it's basically the same weight and size as any head+cab setup unless you are doing a digital/ss type hybrid thing

That's basically the only situation that you can make it lighter and smaller and have it sound relatively decent for music that requires super loud distorted guitars

100 percent agreed. I got a combo with the intent and idea that it would be much easier to cart around than a 4x12 and 100 watt Marshall head. It's not as light as a two piece arrangement but with a dolly and some straps the only real lifting is in and out of the car and onto and off of the stage plus it's one piece. Good luck stabilizing a 4x12, plus head, plus personal bag, plus mic cables/mic bag, plus camera bag, tripod, and mic stand on the cart. I love the beef of a half stack but head-cab arrangements are a royal pain in the ass at 3a.m on sixth street when every possible way off the street is clogged with very drunk people. No regrets trading away the Plexi RI on a vintage Twin. Others may not have the same needs as me though.
