What mesa’s did fryette help design….

Or work on? I think it’s awesome what he did with the IIC+ and now with synergy. Just curious if he had any input on anything else that they did? I’m not really a vht fan…honestly I have only owned a pitbull 50st and could not wait to unload it.

I thought he decided to do the IICP module because he was aware of the circuit and made amps around that time, not that he had any direct involvement with Randall and the rest of Mesa. Didn’t Dteve get the idea of graphic EQ from Mesa?

He was an early mesa warranty dealer at that cartage store him and friedman never shut the fuck up about. So he directly dealt with randall and mike b on what the players who bought it were giving, as feedback

Fryette has told the story a few times

Oh my bad… I assumed he worked with them. Maybe I need to watch the synergy video without putting a toy together for my excited grandkids…

I think in the recent Malcontents Dteve said that the graphic EQ was so that people had a snowball's chance in hell of dialing the combo Pitbull to sound like the head pushing a 412, and not to be a general use EQ like the Mark series.
Yeah, I seen that one. And then everyone had to have it on the Ultra Lead.. Then he would get people saying why does my Amp sound like shit and it's because they suck all the life out of it with the EQ..

The architecture of the Fryettes don't need a GEQ. The Tone Controls work just fine..

It's ultimately why I bailed on Marks.. I got tired of the GEQ.. A small move makes a big change to the sound.. It shouldn't need to be that complicated. YMMV..

Yeah. I think he was just putting the eq in there to make the amp sound the same with any speaker combination. He said a lot of guys just did the upside down v like the mark series and fucked it all up. I think sometimes amp makers try to save guitarists from themselves. If you have a simple front panel, sometimes you look for one small tone changing option. I think that is where a graphic would come in handy. But when you are using it at the beginning of tone shaping, you can fuck yourself right good.

I think he said in another episode that he specifically didn't have a middle band (4 band instead of 5 I think?) to frustrate attempts to scoop it ala the mark series. He must've forgot that if you make something idiot proof, nature just makes a better idiot.

I do wonder what an amp with a GEQ instead of a traditional tone stack would be like. Would definitely be different.
