Celestion Redbacks - School me

Yeah. I love the nastiness being in a different range than upper mid. Redbacks fucking fill the spectrum.

If you were playing with a band, maybe you are intruding. But i think that saying they are dark is wrong. I can hear almost as much presence in them as the h30, however, it isnt as apparent because it isnt the only girl at the show. Redback is bringing the low mids just as hard

I think one way to put it is for those that are constantly trying to dial an upper mid or high frequency out of an amp, the redback lets you have that frequency still come through but not be the star, so it seems that it is less there.
It may provide that last 5% you are looking for

I hate “dark” anything when it comes to tone. I avoided redbacks for a long time because I thought they’d be too dark. Turns out they aren’t! lol

Don’t be afraid to turn up your presence and treble if you find them dark. Or try mixing with H75s or v30s
This. Mixing speaker types is where I’m at now. 1) a well rounded speaker for the band 2) a speaker for cutting through when you need it —like the Alexander the Great’s Phalanx formation.

They probably work with Modelors because there's always to much sibilance in Modelor tone.. Fact.. LOL

Judas Priest seems to make Redback 412s work in their live shows…😏

Judas Priest also has the most expensive, best PAs/sound reinforcement on earth, hired sound engineers, dedicated roadies and hirelings, and literally every possible way to make them work with an unlimited budget - that's not exactly the same live context as gigging players in the trenches in clubs and small theatres where you're lucky to have the cabinets miced up at all, let alone get them in a monitor mix.

Apples/oranges

I wrote them off after that Zilla Cabs video came out that made them sound awful, a weird combo of too dark but also hollow and notchy. But every other demo I've heard makes them sound way better, way more balanced, with way more high end, enough that it makes me second guess the other Zilla Cab demos.

BTW, no reason to single Zilla out in particular other than how easy it is to come across their videos when you're listening to speaker demos.

that was the video I had watched and made me pause. Rick at wizard recommended them, so I figured I'd give them a shot.

I thought everyone here had their own roadies! lol

I would think a 100w amp into a 600w cab wouldn't have any trouble being heard.

But anyway, if I was in that situation, I'd play an Axe FX direct in with IRs, why bother with cabs. No one in the audience cares anyway.

It's not a matter of not being heard, it's just a matter of it not sitting in a live band as easily or effectively

You could definitely play your axe fx in priests situation, but you would be even worse off if you were gigging 😂

most clubs and theaters (that have metal and punk shows anyways) have garbage PAs and garbage sound engineers

Same. Listening back to that video I can only assume somebody kicked the mic or the speaker was just broken or something. That speaker sounds totally different than every other Redback demo I've heard.

If you ask me, and I'm telling you anyway.. :ROFLMAO:.
The only practical application for a 150 watt Speaker is for a Single Speaker 100-watt Combo..
4 must sound stale as fuck..

The old Mesa C90 Black Shadows had a large but thin DC.. Those sounded pretty good.

I have two in an x pattern with Cream 75’s. Honestly in the room I can’t tell that much difference between them. But I am really over the congestive mid sound of Celestions.

I’m thinking about replacing all my 4x12’s with Fanes and EV12L. I recently tried my SLO with a buddies custom dumble style 2x10 EV cabinet and it was glorious. Damn near as much low end as a Marshall 4x12.

I also really do not like speaker breakup at all anymore. Which is strange after using Greenbacks for so long. Weird how much my ears have changed since my 20’s.

This is true. Nothing like mic'ing up thousands of bucks worth of amp/speakers into a harbinger system, lol. QSC is pretty common here, fortunately, as are soundmen who don't need counseling and pills when the gutiarists are loud.

You can always tell dudes who never play gigs when they're like "mic up my 15 watt combo" or "I'll just play my modeler"

Yeah like good fucking luck homie 😂

I'm sure that's gonna be super present in the monitors you won't have and I'm sure the board will have IRs as a convenience just in case!

Jesus fucking Christ

Real life gigging isn't a wacken open air YouTube video and I don't think home hobby guys they realize how they sound

Ev12Ls are fucking insane good, but you don't need two of them in a 4x12 trust me 😂

They're so fucking heavy you're going to break your spine

Fanes are badass too, and I'm sure it would be a great combo

This is something that has been a joke for a lot of years. I remember the old Midnight specials, lmao. The guitarist would start his solo, and the camera man would zoom in on the drummer. It was classic. At a death metal concert, I will often kinda watch the guitarist to learn his secrets. especially when they are not just noodling a shitty solo (some solos are good, but most are obligatory and do nothing for the song). But I watch people in the crowd, and they are just drunk and kind of waiting for the breakdown. Granted, it is a wall of noise and you can feel it. But no one gives a fuck about the guitarist that doesn't play guitar.

We are very arrogant people, guitarists. As it should be. Bassists aren't people. Drummers aren't musicians. Singers are absolute divas. The bedroom guitarist really has the right idea. Why try to play nice, when we can be God?

Great speakers for bright amps.

Loved them paired with fane f70.
Especially with mesa mkiv.
And TC100.

They love volume.
