I think what I love about this one is that going from my 5150-III to the Orange or Orange to the 5150-III, the sound is not so drastic. Since it had a lot of saturation, for my needs, it works perfectly. For me, it allows me to have another tool in the arsenal, instead of dumping one. I can keep all and use all. When I had the Katana, I didn't touch it because it couldn't come close to the feel I got with my tube amps.
Funny you mention the 5150. Saw this yesterday. He's not as impressed with the Super Crush, but I thought it sounded OK when boosted and eq'd.I think what I love about this one is that going from my 5150-III to the Orange or Orange to the 5150-III, the sound is not so drastic. I didn't care for the Katana when I played it, but I've seen folks get great sounds out of them...live in Nashville and New Orleans, and a lot from Phil X on his IG. His Katana Mini sounds on IG has me considering one.I couldnt agree more about the katana
That's one amp where i just did NOT understand the hype
Sure it sounded fine on clean tones, but all SS amps do
The high gain sounds on the Katana are literal garbage lol
It sounded great in the store. When I took it home, it just sounded so harsh. I know people mention tweaking, etc but it should sound pretty good without the tweaks. The Orange sounds great at a ton of settings. Under Noon on the dirty channel, not much there but I'd never use that anyway. Guitsr volume knob adjust.I couldnt agree more about the katana

The Katana only works at low bedroom practice volumes. Cranked it’s a can of bees.
Doesn't that take you back to square one?The clean channel us awesome for pedals by the way. I plugged in my Keeley El Rey Dorado and was a great AC/DC tone!!
I might need to pick up a 5150-III pedal to run into this...
You need oneYa, I've heard good things about those Orange SS amps. They sound very tube like.
It would be cool to have that option with a solid state amp for gigs. I'd still have my 5150-III amps at home but could get that tone if needed.Doesn't that take you back to square one?
Ah, I see now. I thought you were going to run it always-on, and wondered what the point of having a different amp was in that case.It would be cool to have that option with a solid state amp for gigs. I'd still have my 5150-III amps at home but could get that tone if needed.
I felt like I came out of a cave, like how have I never had one of these?I have been looking at these for a couple of years now and really have no reason not to have picked one up. They tend to pop up locally here and there for good prices. When the newer version came out, I kind of took a step back trying to decide which one I should get. Need to get off of the fence!
Hells yes!! Let me know what you end up pairing it with. I might end up getting a head and cab down the road, especially if it sounds massive.I am buying the head this week.
