What do you pair your Duncan Custom with?

Got one on my LTD EC that I love. I love it so much I'm getting one for my Les Paul.

On the LTD, it's paired with a '59. It's alright. Right now on the Les Paul, I've got a Distortion Neck in there. It's alright too, but it's a bit much. Out of the two, I like the '59 paired with the Custom, just wished it was a tad hotter and a bit less scoopy.

So... what do you all use with your Custom in a Les Paul?

Thanks!

The Custom and Custom 5 were staple go to pickups in my Les Paul's and SG's for years. I had the same irks regarding the '59 neck model: I found it a bit underpowered and woofy.

I went to a coupled self-modded models that I loved paired with the Custom. One was a '59 neck with a regular sized ceramic magnet and the other was a Screamin' Demon with a ceramic magnet. More output, tighter low end and more aggressive midrange, which was what I was after.

I also have a '59 with my Custom in a LP, not quite happy with it on certain amps. I've backread tons of posts on magnet swaps with 59s but haven't tried any myself. I mostly use it for cleans though, maybe some light crunch, so my experience may not apply all that much. There's the Slash 2.0 set, '78 set, and I see now there's a "Hades Gates" set for Billy Gibbons, maybe something there might work?

I paired it with an Alnico 2 pro in the neck in that HH American Professional strat they made a bit back.
How did you like it? Did you have any trouble balancing them out? It balances fine with the '59, but it's on the edge of almost not balancing. Is the A2 magnet strong enough? :)

The 59 is always a logical choice. I'll also put in a vote for the Jazz, probably my favorite neck pick up. And AII Pro works well too.

EQ wise, no issues

Output wise, I'm used to HSS, so I like the neck pickup slightly weaker

I've got the Sentient in a couple guitars and do like it...has enough but not too much. I've also go the Blues Sarcaeno Trembucker in the neck on my Solar...excellent once you find the sweet spot on height.

Slap a 59 Bridge model into the neck position. It's a little bit hotter the the 59 neck model. Less scoopy, tighter lows, not boomy at all.

It worked for Dimebag.
