GC had a really clean used one with all brand new MESA tubes in it for a fair price, and i had to take it home. This is probably the 5th time i've owned one of these over the years. The master effects PMEQ in the loop, again, makes this amp seriously shine. there isn't a ton you can do with the on board eq IMO. its various stages of "almost there, but just not quite right". With something more in the loop to control the eq you can easily get it "just right". Combos dial back the buzzing bee's, and have a decent clean channel without mods, the reverb is average at best, but no one uses it. its all about that chug! i haven't played a 5150 in about 10 years, its a nice super aggressive contrast to the silky smooth mark IV. tomrrow, when the kids are at school, i'll play em in stereo :)

I owned one in 1998...Sounded glorious. Could not believe the amount of gain and sizzle...At the time, nothing sounded so modern and aggressive plugged straight in.

Ohhhh yeahhh!!!!!!!

The Triple X is mush compared to the 5150 combo.
To be fair, you'd have to run the head into the combo's speakers to be able to make an apples-to-apples comparison I reckon.

Could be a lot of that "mush" is due to the number and arrangement of the drivers in the cab you're using for the Peavey. :dunno:

I ran the 5150 combo and the Triple X head through my 4x12. (Egnater Armageddon with 2 K100's and 2 G12T75's) The 5150 is much more percussive. Every Triple X head video I checked out has a softer attack compared to the 5150 combo. I've tried to like the Triple X but it just doesn't work for me. First world problems. LOL

Back breaker, but the best version of the 5150, IMO.
What is it like 60 or 70lbs? I call anything under 80lbs a portable, lightweight combo amp.

2x12 combos are making a comeback. Congrats Jim Ansell.

I remember playing a Tverb combo a few months before I bought the head at another store. Have always preferred heads to combo's but something about the Tverb, 5150, and 5153 combo's that just seem to shine a little bit differently. Just need a roadie to move them around!

It's about 85 pounds, and what's even worse is it's huge in all dimensions. Crazy cumbersome to deal with without a dolly

Mine just sits in the corner of my jam room like a monolith :ROFLMAO:

I have two Twins. One is 86lbs and the other is 94lbs. I gigged the 86lb unit last weekend. I always take a dolly with though, lol.

Have one - love it. Got it for $179 from GC long ago.
They were factory biased hotter than the heads for whatever reason

i bear hugged it and put it in my trunk by myself. I expected worse, but it wasn't that bad. humble brag: i'm in FAR better shape physically than i was the last time i had this thing, when i was doughy drunk lol.

Based ripped kimg

I think it's between 80-85lbs. It's ATLEAST 80.
Big weight, big tone, big reliability. That is definitely a larger cab size than a Twin. There are at least four or five inches in between the speakers where a Twin's speakers almost touch each other, making for a more compact cab.
