Pedal peeps... what is the difference between the JRC4558 and the MC1458P ?

Is there a big difference between the two opamps? Are they interchangeable? I was reading the spec sheets, but I really can't tell.

I did find this, but I'm not sure they are interchangeable.

The JRC4558 and MC1458P are both operational amplifiers (op-amps) with some differences in their features and applications:

  • Design: The JRC4558 is designed for single-voltage systems, transducers, DC amplification blocks, and analog circuits. The MC1458P is a dual general purpose op-amp.

  • Power supply: The JRC4558 has a versatile power supply of ± 4 to 18 Volts. The MC1458P has a dual supply voltage range of +/- 9 V, +/- 12 V.

  • Gain: The JRC4558 has a high voltage gain of 100 dB typically. The MC1458P has a voltage gain of 106 dB.

  • Common Mode Rejection Ratio (CMMR): The MC1458P has a CMMR of 90 dB.

  • Temperature range: The MC1458P has an operating temperature range of 0 - 70 deg. C.

  • Pin compatibility: The JRC4558 is pin to pin compatible with the MC1458/LM358.

you can swap them .........they are both dual op amps and pin to pin compatible

Same pins, not exact specs. They are part of a 'family' and can be interchanged. Its up to the user to determine closest spec and application. What will operate within parameter without causing damage. Most of these chips were never designed for guitar gear, so keep that in mind. Here is your 4558 family :

2-IN 1
3+IN 1
4-V
5+IN 2
6-IN 2
