Is this typical Gibson now or was their shenanigans from the guy I bought this from?

There are lots of used Customs in excellent to mint condition between $3200-$4200. There's no reason to buy new.

That looks like finish checking to me. As far as I know it's very common on most of the guitars coming out of Gibson.
I hear ya. I fully understand that I am not Gibsons target market. All my guitars together aren't worth $3500. But I do play a lot of high end guitars on a regular basis, and if I were looking to spend that money, most current Gibson products wouldn't be on my radar.

Gibson doesn't seem to care. If a guitar does get returned to them, they will probably just replace a few parts to non spec and put it on their mod shop for more $.
"You know the guitar. The one you find with horribly finished frets. The one that the headstock keeps inexplicably snapping off. The one with lazily soldered electronics. You know the one.

Here at Gibson, we get it. Putting your own heart and soul into your guitar makes it special. It makes it one of a kind. It makes it AUTHENTIC.

That's why we are proud to announce our new line...The Custom Shop Factory 2nds Home Luthier series.

Our techs have handpicked only the greatest fucked up I mean "ready to go" models which YOU THE PLAYER can design and repair the way YOU WANT IT. Because at Gibson, it's all about the player!"

While y'all are replacing that headstock on the 335, might as well change it out for an explorer one. :ROFLMAO:

Oh boy…… the seller committed a grievous offense. A simple rebate is not acceptable in a case like this, no, this calls for retribution on a higher level as he clearly committed an egregious act of subterfuge upon you!! Clearly, you should find him in person, no matter how far that might be, in the big picture, a plane ticket isn’t much when you consider the retribution you will unleash upon him. And, in a purge like effect, you will no longer crave blood for years after. You must purge immediately. And he must receive! He has wronged you in a way seldom ever experience and when such a crime occurs, the retribution must be both swift, and utterly menacing. (And maybe even crippling, but that’s up to you) To the point the next time he plans of shafting someone he will quickly be overcome with panic, pain and wildly urinate himself simultaneously. You owe him this and he must receive!!

I’ve only changed the tune-o-matics, tuners, screws and pup switches and strap buttons (locking) to black ones on Explorer and Flying V
