NAD: Marshall SV20H

I still own the SV20H , EVH stealth 50 watter, some 1987x configuration from the 80’s small logo , SL67 MKII and love all of them . Every time I play them I dial all of them in to sound the same. Must be mental illness. The only one that sounds different to me is the EVH but that’s because it’s a gain monster!!!

The SV20H lacks a lot of things, but high-end is not one of them. It was super harsh compared to my 1987x.

Ive not played the sv20 extensively so i couldnt agree or disagree with you. I'm just telling you what people mean by the word.

What speakers you using? Some amps are crazy speaker sensitive.

The speaker designed for it - SV212. I'm sure it sounds a lot better running it the way Bret Pappa did going through OX and using EQ and post-processing. I sold it a while back and picked up a 1987x & a Plex. Much happier now.

So You bought 20W and it doesn't sound as big as 50W ? It is really surprise 😀
Plexi sound isn't about big low like 800s end and lo-fi is the words when I listen someold records. For the same reason I prefer 10" SV20 combo in smaller rehearsal space.
SV20 does exactly what is advertised, plexi sound at reasonable volume level.

Do you run the 1987x through a power station? I have a Plex and really want a 1987x (someday) but wondering if it’s at all redundant

I just sold my Power Station right before I purchased the 1987x b/c I didn't feel the Friedman needed it. I'll probably buy one again for the 1987x down the road. That said, the Plex is perfect and my idealized Marshall Plexi tone. If I could only have one I'd keep the Friedman. I really wish Marshall would add the bright switches and PPIMV to their NMV lineup b/c aesthetically the Marshall wins.

The SV20H was so bright I could barely take it. The 1987x is a lot warmer by comparison, but far too loud to crank without a PowerStation. The Friedman Plex works better for me b/c it's less equipment to fuss with.

Got it. Thanks.

Yeah I love my plex, and I couldn’t imagine now not having the bright switch option on a plexi.
