Slayer: Seasons in the Abyss - 1990

I did not enjoy it as much when it came out because I liked South of Heaven better but it has aged well for me and I like it more now. Always loved Slayer :)
I was somewhat disappointed when it came out. Seemed like they were trying to find common ground between reign in blood and south of heaven. But I agree with you, it has aged well and I like it more now also.

War Ensemble is one of the greatest album openers….for any genre. In what can be a revolving door of what my top 5 Slayer songs are, that song never leaves. That album tour was the first time I got to see them live and it was, unironically…biblical.
They kind of pulled off what Metallica did. Three, all time classic albums, that sound very different from each other, so you have something to fit your mood and taste all the time.

This one brings back memories, I vividly remember a few of us listening to it at my friend Russell's (rest in peace, brother) house when it came out and half of those people are gone now. I liked the album but upon first listen it was a bit of a letdown to me as I was - and am - a huge fan of those first albums but it has really grown on me over the years. This is one of those albums that always reminds me of autumn and the cooler months, funny how music can do that.

edit:
Here's a great full set off YT from this tour

@Techdeth check out this harmonic analysis of the title track where he mentions Slayer’s use of the Octatonic scale:

I’ll check this out . They were use 12 tone rows and shit . You know kk actually took lessons and mapped out his solos with a teacher ? Then Jeff took yo the challenge. I’ll def watch

When this album dropped, a few friends and I would crank it ( especially DSM ) before we would hit up the old haunted cemeteries. It just set the tone of the night absolutely perfect.

It became a soundtrack for some of the best, funnest memories ever.
