It's been a few months now looking for the verdict on the EVH Iconic EL34 head

I read most of the threads that were going when it first came out but I'm curious to see if someone bought the EL34 version and if they still have it what they think of it I'd like the good and bad opinions on it. And your opinion on whether it's better than the 6l6 version? Thanks in advance.

Haven't played the EL34 version, but I did really like the 6L6 version I played at the store a while ago. I just don't want the big ass 80 watt head. I'll most likely get the 40 combo and build a headshell for it. I forgot to mention that I like the crunch setting more than the lead channel. I don't like the burn.

It's good. Slightly warmer sounding than the 6L6 version. People who thought the 6L6 was too bright would probably like this. I like both.

Just a tad darker than the 6L6 iconic, otherwise basically the same IMO

The iconic series has a really usable clean channel and the gain sounds almost as good as the old ones imo, they're good amps

With only 2 preamp tubes its basically a Metal Zone w/a tube output section.

6l6 one is up my ally . Need to try. But your description definitely makes me want 6l6

They're both good IMO

I prefer the peavey 5150s, but i actually like the iconic more than the EVHs
Me as well. After hearing the clips of it, I didn't really care for it much but hearing it in person, I was shocked at how open/raw it could be dialed in which is near impossible with the 5153s.
