Returned a Katana and got a Katana!

I got the BOSS Katana Gen 3 Head a few weeks ago and really was enjoying it. So I decided to spend an additional few hundred more and got the Katana Artist Gen 3 combo. Sounds just as good but is even better with an XLR out and controls for resonance and a few other extras.

Looking forward to cranking this at the next band practice to see how it compares with my Orange Super Crush 100. Solid state amps have come so far since the good old days. I love my tube amps but cool to have a palette of different tones in my man cave.

I have quite a collection of modern and vintage tube amps, facts are that there's quite a few things SS amps do better than tube amps. I like this little FR speaker that does models:

I have a Catalyst 100 for over a year now; earlier this year upgraded the firmware - which upgrades it to the new Catalyst CX model. I use my HX-Effects with it; and have patches to change the amp channel and map one of the HX-FX footswitches to turn the amp channel boost on/off.

The clean amp models take the effects well; I watched one demo where the guitarist used just two clean amp channels, one for rhythm the other for leads, and did the rest with the effects in the amp (I only use the amp boost, and get the effects from the HX-FX).

The high gain models work really well; the Marshall-esq crunch took a little effort to get it where I like it.

Not that I plan to gig again, but if I needed a lightweight, versatile amp on stage with many effects, HX-FX + Catalyst 100 would be tough to beat.

Yeah it is a different time and I'm at a different age. I'd love to have two 4x12s and some big tube heads at a gig. The reality is that I feel 100 years old after a gig. So far, my Orange Super Crush 100 on a stand has been great at gigs and sounds killer and is loud as hell.

I'm hoping the Katana adds more versatility and I'm thinking I may eventually do the stereo thing with two Katanas but we'll see.

Dude! I just picked one up this weekend. Sometimes I don't want to fire up my big rig and just simply turn an amp on and play. that little sucker sounds good for what it does!
I agree.

Gets decently loud, has alot of options. Functions as an amp modeler and an FR cab. Small enough to fit in most guitar cases. Tons of presets and jam tracks in the app. The possibilities are endless :)

I also have to Spark 40

I just placed an order for the Spark 50. tons of new features and a greatly improved looper with drum tracks. and 25% louder.

I just have the Go but really wouldn't mind getting a 50 just to have in my living room in between the TV and the bookcase. I've used the Go so much to test pedals, pickups, power outlets, etc (it's basically my test unit). I feel like the 50 would be a steal!

$259 as I am a registered owner of the Spark 40. otherwise, its 299. which is STILL a heal of a deal for what you get in one package

I'm gonna have to jump on that! We forgot to mention that it also makes for a good Bluetooth speaker and can speed up and slow down tempos. As well as has some footswitches you can sync with it.

I made a thread about the Vai Mini they put out, just because it looks cool and of course that got trolled by the trolls here. I'm amazed that they're not tearing down this thread and these products. Bless RSM for making it lol

Paul Gilbert gave up his tube amp stacks and has been going Spark Cab rigs when playing live. That's funny lol buy shows just how good these amps can be. I hear great things about the Katana too though I've never been lucky enough to try one
