2204 cap job

Got a vertical input 2204 that probably needs some maintenance like a cap job. What kind of differences will be noticed if it’s never been done…it’s an 82 or 83

And will it mess with the value some ?

I did my own many years back. Mine started getting untight/farty on the lo-end and I opened it up and found a leaky filter cap. . I bought replacements, soldered them in (easy job and I'm no tech) and it sounded great again. I didn't care about the value, as it needed them replaced. Mine is a mid 80's 2204 that I had 'stock' for many years, and then got it hi-gain modded by Bruce Egnater (with fx loops) and kicks ass. As for doing cap jobs when amps sound great, I'm not one of those guys, but of course techs recommend them every so many years. I've only had them go bad on 1 -2 amps ever (and I'm old and a total gearhead!) Good luck

Appreciate it

I feel like mines a little flubby. I’m probably the 3rd owner so no clue how close it is to full strength. It’s super loud but I’ve never felt it’s as bright as what I was expecting.

I’m guessing it’ll help a decent amount. Then I might try the hot mod and take it over the top. But I definitely wanna make sure it’s 100% first.
