Avatar, Fane, and WGS speakers - An ongoing thread with summarized results

nice testing and documentation!

i currently have a Mahalo 4x12 loaded with warehouse Invader 50s and ET 65s in an x pattern,
a v30 loaded orange 1x12
and a gh30 loaded 1x12

i’ve had oodles. here’s a great video discussing the keys:

I actually watch this channel all the time!

To be fair, I think this thread turned into an Avatar/Fane focused one. I have tested about 4 or 5 of the WGS speakers as well now. I will end up doing a number of summaries on those when I have time, though they aren't needed as much as the Avatar/Fane ones IMO.

a vintage Jensen P12N for clean fender and a Rola Greyback 25 watt Celestion for marshally hard rock rhythm/leads are my all time faves.

the jensen reissue and tone tubbies red hempcone were close for P12N sound

and avatar hellatone and scumbacks are good rock speakers

Yeah I had some of the Hellatones I sold a while back and wish I had them still for testing. Not as good as their new variants IMO. The AV75 is like the perfect speaker for me for my clean and heavy tones in an open back cab. Really impressed with their new offerings.

noticed you're selling a pair of Avatar H75s. not to hijack the thread, and feel free to respond in a PM, how do they compare to the Avatar M65s?

Little bit bigger sounding.
Little more depth in the frequency response.
Doesnt have any ice pick.
But neither does the m65.
More power handling.
Takes more volume before breaking up.

The H75 is a Fane F70 with a larger dustcap.

This is how I would also describe the new Avatar AV75 verse the M65. Nailed it.

Bit bigger, bit more depth in frequency response for low/high end but not having Ice Picks either.

M65 is a bit more 'focused' in a sense in the mid area.

@GuitarGuy08 @ChuggNorris
I have a 16ohm M65 on the way.
Debating if it'll go in a 1x12 or a 2x12, and if 2x12, i need to decide on a second speaker.
The amp in question is a RedSeven Duality 50 btw.
Since i live in Europe, the fane f70 is the more economical option, but i'm not against shipping the AV75 over here from the US.
Opinions?

I would wait to see if the M65 is doing what you want on its own before grabbing another speaker. If you like what the M65 has going on, you may not want to add anything and can just grab more of those. If you find the M is lacking something, then I would check out something to pair with it.

I only have experience with the AV75, and it's a great sounding speaker. I am still doing a lot of research/demo right now with the speakers. Hoping to have some videos up in the next several weeks.

I did not think the F70 sounded super similar to the AV75 in a few demos I heard but from the descriptions of others, they are in the same ball park.

The AV75 will add bottom and top end but will not skimp on the mids either. Kind of a lot of everything in a sense. The M65 will have a more focused spectrum.

Let me know what you think of the M65 when you give it a good go!

Any audio clips you can post of the AV60 vs Vintage 30? You've struck my interest with these AV60 speakers.
Sadly, I no longer have my Vet 30s (Been years) but the AV60s are definitely that sound and style. I would say that somehow, the AV60 has more mid to my ears than a standard V30 without that crazy top spike that makes you squint your eyes each time it is hit. I think, overall, I am more of a Greenback guy but the 60s are a great set of speakers if that is what you are going for. Extremely tight. Rock oriented 100% IMO.

M65 is a great speaker.
I'm looking at getting 2 more when I move some of the others I have sitting around.

I think you need 2 of them minimum though. I like them on top in a 4x12. Not sure how just the 1 will sound.

The f70 is a wider less spiked vintage 30 with more low mids and strong response. I have 2 of thr regular f70 for many years I've kept them around. Great speakers. I bet it would sound really good with the m65 being I like the larger dustcap version f70 (h75) with it.. It also sounds good with a Redback... and a UK vintage 30....

I'm still curious to try the av60. Long as it doesn't fart out in the low end when pushed, it sounds like a great speaker. I always anticipate speaker use being a 4x12 with minimum of 2 speakers of the same being ran.

For example, I love greenbacks. But the way I dial the chunk into an amp and drive it, they can break up a little unpleasantly especially through girthy amps... I can't imagine just using one or 2 of them. Redbacks, different story, they love volume and 2 of them would be no problem for the way I like my tone dialed. But I figure 2 av30 probably sound pretty sweet.

The only thing that creates reserve for me with their av 75 version is an ear fatiguing high frequency response under gain.

There’s nothing fatiguing about the AV75. It’s just a present/clear top end. I’ve since fitted 3 cabs with the AV line. Only cab I’m keeping “as is” is my 1960ax. But I love the new Avatar line and actively use the 75, 60, and 30.

The AV30 looked super tempting as well. Decisions, decisions!

One thing that seems to be apparent: Avatar Speakers kick ass!
