Anybody test drive the Charvel Jim Root?

Some pretty good deals out there on these.. For me, it checks alot of boxes. No cookie cutter JB/59, (the EMG's sound interesting), locking tuners, luminlays, 1500 Floyd with push-in arm, (no wonky threads to deal with), simplified control layout, and a case, (albeit soft foam core, but beats a gigbag or nothing at all). I've been looking at the Relic series, but $1599 is ridiculous. I can get the Root under $900..

I'm going for the white/ebony, I believe.. I'm not Slipknot fan by any means, but I like the specs.

the white with the white pickups looks sweet. my bandmate years ago bought one of the root tele's, i remember being a little skeptical but it was actually really sweet.

I got a black one. I don’t know who Jim Root is or listen to Slipknot.
Great guitar. It had a high fret I took care of, and I got a Trem-Stopper, so the trem goes down-only.

I looked into one but decided to go with a Jackson Dinky since I wanted a slimmer neck shape.

Been looking at DK MJ's as well. I actually prefer the Gotoh 1996 trems, but they're back to the JB's.
I've only had mine like a week and agree the JB isn't anything special (not thick enough for me). But that's at least an easy thing to swap, just haven't decided to what yet lol.

I managed to find a MIM with a hardshell for $500 used but a MIJ would be sick and more worth upgrading.

This guitar is so cool I'd consider getting the white one as well!
The case/ gig bag, is very nice. It's practically a case. Solid, not like a typical gig bag.
It has a huge upward pull on the Vibrato Bar, which I don't need, so I put the FU-Tone Trem-Stop thing in.

I went the Jackson DKR MJ. Got the Gotoh, case, and I have an unopened TB-5 that'll go in the bridge. Got a sick deal on an NOS from a dealer doing some house cleaning..
