Why do you own an AK then ?No thanks. Occasional target shooting and annual deer hunts are enough for me. I'm more of an AK guy than an AR guy, anyway. And wouldn't hunt with either.

When someone gives you an AK-47, you take the fucking AK-47.Why do you own an AK then ?
Set some steel targets up at 15, 25, 50 and 100 yards. Sling your rifle, holster your sidearm and do timed drills doing specific sequences at different distances alternating between your sidearm and your rifle. When someone gives you an AK-47, you take the fucking AK-47.
Well, I can't deny that sounds like fun. Thanks for the advice!Set some steel targets up at 15, 25, 50 and 100 yards. Sling your rifle, holster your sidearm and do timed drills doing specific sequences at different distances alternating between your sidearm and your rifle.
It's a hell of a lot more fun than just shooting at a bullseye. It also tunes your fine motor skills and increases the speed at which you pick up and adjust for different distances. Particularly useful with the handgun, but also useful with the AK. Especially if you just have iron sights on it.
Don't do it because it helps prepare you for a SHTF situation. Just do it because it's fun. And challenging. Bring a friend and time yourselves.
Me too. I focus on .380, 9mm, 10mm, 5.56, 7.62, 50 BMG & 12-gauge.I like
I like some of those old military issue rifles, but if ammo is hard to find or more expensive, I’m out at that point. I’ve spent years using commonality for calibers and mags, so at this point I’m pretty much resolved to 9mm, .40 cal, 556 and 308.
I’ve got .40 cal pistols and rifles that run the same mags, RPRs and AR10’s that both use SR25 magpul mags and ammo, although the ammo in AR10s is usually lighter rounds than I run in the RPR for long distance, and of course a metric shit ton of PMags for AR rifles and pistols.
Just trying to keep it simple and stay with components that are readily available that will run in multiple platforms.
You know…..
For hunting season …
You can also use paper with a 4" circle drawn in the middle of it. Then let's say you have for example three targets set up in a line. Load two pistol mags with 3 rounds each and two rifle mags with 3 rounds each. Take two shots at the left target, one shot at the middle target, mag change, one more shot at the middle target, two shots at the right target. Switch to the rifle and do the same thing only go right to left. With a mag change after the first shot on the middle target. Time it and deduct one second for each hit outside the 4" circle. It's fun and challenging. Especially if you have a buddy to compete against. It also gradually increases the speed at which you make good hits from the draw and when engaging multiple targets. This is just an example, you can do it with as many targets and whatever firearms you wish. You can skip the rife altogether if you want. Do incorporate magazine changes and time it though. Shot timers are cheap and there are free phone apps as well.Well, I can't deny that sounds like fun. Thanks for the advice!

Still not sure about 277 Fury; but still considering 300 PRC...I want at least one modern caliber.
that said, the Barrett MRADELR is tough to resist, besides the price.

The club I belong to has a 1000 yard range. I can't even imagine shooting 2 miles.Nice
They have an ELR range about 4 hours from my place, they had an open house where you pay to shoot anything you want. They had everything you can imagine. A friend of mine was shooting a 416 Barrett custom build at 2 miles.
Yes 2 miles..
I have a vid somewhere I’ll see if I can dig it up
Sandbags, excellent backstop. You just have to build it back up occasionally. Why not ? You're walking around in the sand and some dudes pop up like a mad max movie 14' away from you. You gonna ask them to move back before you slag 'em ? There's a good reason to be careful with steel at close distances. Soft tissue or paper or wood, meh, blast away.
Your shooting a 4’X4’ steel plate, so it’s a good size target, but you can’t even see it with the naked eye. They give you the dope for the shot, so if you have good fundamentals, it’s not that different from shooting at 1000 yds. That’s what he said, I myself have not done it. They had all kinds of exotic super high end stuff there including a .408 Cheytac Intervention that I would have loved to shoot but he didn’t shoot. He also shot a 338 Lapua in a Masterpiece Arms chassis at a mile and we noticed in the 2 vids that the 416 Barrett goes 2 miles faster than the 338 Lapua goes one mile, which is absolutely crazy if you think about it.The club I belong to has a 1000 yard range.
