I accidentally figured out a workaround that might be worth a try:
Drag an image to the posting window.
When you're 100% sure it's fully-uploaded, reload the page.
The image should now appear as a thumbnail.
Insert into post by clicking "Insert" on the thumbnail.

It's running good for me but yesterday early on it was running slow big-time. I'm on Chrome on my desktop if that helps.
