And I blame YouTube! Even guys whose tones I generally do NOT like as content creators go still got this thing sounding killer. I have the new KSR PA-100R in anodized purple coming in as well. Going to be a sick rig I think.

Man, even Fredrik of Opeth's Synergy SLO II video gets your attention.. these guys have the best tones they ever have with the Synergys.

Mine arrived this afternoon, spent a couple hours with it. Sounds really good, it’s been about 15 years since I had my X88R.
Going by memory this definitely sounds better, and has a lot more features. Clean channel has way more headroom and punch.
Crunch channel is much more useful on the new model. Crunch with fat mode engaged is more than enough gain for my needs.
You should be happy with it

I'd be happy with just getting a good deal on an original X88R. I don't use any of that fancy stuff the new one is designed to play nice with. I just want regular ol' knobs and switches.

Unfortunately, I suspect the original X88R's will remain higher priced than the new version. Still, I'm surprised it's not more than $2500 with everything it offers, and reports so far suggest it actually sounds better than the original. (I never played one, so no reference point for me. I've owned the SP-77 and a SLO, but never played the other preamps.)

I'm so tempted by this preamp......trying to resist! I don't know that I've ever purchased a new amplifier of any sort, lol!

I actually did buy my one and only amp new. It is an SLO 😁

Ohhhhh no, You’re mistaken.
The original (XXX amplifiers) ALWAYS are sonically far superior to any reissue.

Always!

Just trust those who have invested in the originals.

Get with it! 😉

Now, with the SLO, the DeYoung transformers in the originals are apparently special.
Maybe they’re sonically superior to the reissue transformers? 🤔
Not sure.

Oh man for sure. That’s why I bought the Synergy module too. I got the purple one.

Ordered the new KSR PA-100 Rack. 6L6 loaded and in anodized purple to match the X88. I do have a VHT 2:90:2 OG with center power switches which SOME say is pretty sonically similar to the 2150…

6L6 since that’s what’s in the SLO. also, see above.

Yeah agreed. I too was pleasantly surprised at the price point for what it irks.
