Yep, sterile to me doesn't sound good...kinda boring, no character...while HiFi can sound good....depending.I didn't think I would like it from your description, that word alone is usually a dealbreaker. I liked it though, so I had to go back and listen to those bands. Hell yeah I think you could pull it off, not sure how much of that is hands or amp though, lol.
They sound really thin next to a modern amp thoughMarshall 8100,8200 and VS100 should be reissued
Marshall's tightest and most brutal metal amps
Not when both guitarists play the same amps liveThey sound really thin next to a modern amp though
There are a few of us that regularly do this. I understand the harshness you speak of very well. This is why i think it is important to eq your amp when you have it at volume. It will sound weird at low volumes, but when it is there, it makes sense. You have obviously taken it further than what my friends do. But like i said, i really look forward to hearing that tone in a full bandIt's a really fun eq curve to run. Standing in front of the amp at peak volumes is almost surreal because your body and ears are getting hammered by speaker flexing palm mutes and power chords that slice like a guillotine but there is zero harshness, wincing or piercing going on. Like standing in the fire and not getting burned. You hear and feel everything evenly.
I actually drowned out a JCM800 doing something similar to this with a band back in the late 90s.
