What rare/obscure amps have you owned?

I remember you from back then. Those amps are all badass. Say what you want about Doug and his terrible fashion choices..the man could build a killer amp. I always hope I can find a Rocca in the wild someday.
Absolutely, that thing ripped. I remember you as well, glad to see you're doing well!

I still have the SD80 and OR, but would really like to get the others back as well. That HG was a monster, and built like a tank. I would grab it again in a heartbeat, I was still in flipper mode back then. I've aged into hoarder mode now :giggle:

I guess these would be rare to semi-rare. I don't know how many were made of these, but at minimum they don't come up for sale often.

I currently still own all of these (and no plans to sell them)
  • Zinky MOFO #65/100
  • Peters Pro Dual Channel Halo/Vega
  • Naylor Superdrive 100
  • Monomyth Skeleton Key (I think Shea said in a podcast there were 50 or so total out there)
  • Headfirst Alta (the numbers are growing, but I have serial #2 of the first US production run)
  • EVO TM-50 (Designed & made by Rob DeAntonio who's most well known for modding MTS modules)
  • Laney Lionheart L50H
  • Crate Blue Voodoo 300 (I have 2)
  • Crate Blue Voodoo 150

1969 Sound City PA Mark 3. It's Reeves Era handwired and is schematically close to a Hiwatt CP-103. It's 100 watts and 6 channels of Hiwatt/early Sound City tones. MK4s can be found, but they're different inside. Can't find another MK3 or earlier on sale.

I recently picked up a Sound City Mk 4 PA. Cheap, Partridge trans and lots of Mustards. Gonna mess with it at some point. Sounds surprisingly good with Griff's Dist pedal (BE clone).
Other obscure amps:
1. Crate Stealth-Lee Jackson design, and I used to find them for 150-200 bucks. Modded Marshall-y.
2. Rivera TBR-1SL.....bought from Jason Bieler of Saigon Kick fame. Super cool to deal with.
3. Red Bear Mk60 with a Nick mod..not many Red Bears, let alone with a Nick mod.
4. 3 2B Coliseums, 1 became a C+. If you know, you know.
5. Peavey VTM 120 with a Rockstah Mod 5. Find another.
6. 1972 totally stock SuperTremolo-not many Trems out there. My no#1 all time fav amp. Incredible with Griff's dist pedal; chased away all my modded Marshalls, Wizards, Coliseums.
7. Early Rev C Recto-best Mesa I've had, even over the 4 C+s. Killer amp.
8. Naylor SD60-don't see these every day. Great amp.

I had a NATAS back when it launched, didn't know it was rare. Missed it so replaced with a Thrasher.
Sunn 300t
One of those amps built into a silvertone hardcase from the 60s. :ROFLMAO:

uhh you know if you've spoken to me about a certain serial number and others are listed below

fortin NATAS=just get a randall satan or thrasher, fuck the bullhsit

i had no idea any of the rivera stuff i've owned was considered rare? but ok

prosonic is good shit, fender super sonic is close enough

but they're priced similarly actually the prosonic is cheaper a lot of the time

cornford mk50-built for vinne moore, should not have sold this, it was dumb dumb, friend who bought it passed sadly

dar prototypes, the forza prototype and a tuzzia that was never built like the one i had, hmmm dumb to sell, or dumb to own idk which frankly

shit i need a wizard, those are the heat fire or whatever the kids are saying these days they're that

others i can't remember and don't know if anyone cares about
How close would you say the Satan and Thrasher are compared to each other?

Rivera is weird.. you have maybe the two biggest metal bands of the last 25 years in Tool and Slipknot that use them, both of which sell all sorts of sig gear, yet on forums at least you'd hardly know Rivera's even existed theres so little talk or people that have them.

The rarer stuff I've got a DAR FBM, Elmood 3100s, a Chris Poland's old Conford mk 50, a Rev D dual rec, a Bogner 100B, a vintage Jim Kelley, and a Mark III blue stripe coli.

Previously had a IIB+ coli I had modded by Mike B that was previously owned by Brad Whitford, and many blue and black stripe coli IIIs

Again, all relative. But amps I own or owned that were kind of obscure:
  • IIC++ HRG longhead
  • Mesa Dual Rec Rev C
  • Mesa Dual Rec Rev D
  • Mesa Dual Rec Rev F
  • Soldano Rack SLO (before reissue, I think there were 50 floating around)
  • Bogner Fish with Cantrell Mod
  • Bogner Snorkler 100 watt marshall mod
  • Matchless GPR-1 Preamp
  • Friedman Naked
  • Friedman Marsha 100 watt
  • Monomyth Skeleton Key 100 watt mod to a JCM 800
  • Cameron Aldrich JCM 800
  • Hermansson 5 stage Marshall
  • Hermansson 3 stage Marshall
  • Hermansson Boogie
  • Lichtlaerm Prometheus (won't be rare for long as many will be finished and shipped soon).

You’re favorite out of those?

Diezel vh4s - vh4 is relatively common I suppose but the stereo version doesn't come up that often. Probably should a kept it. But didn't dig it with the front loaded evm 12l diezel cab and had a chance to grab something else but so it goes...

Soldano decatone, super cool amp generally but the shared tone circuit was a bit limiting.

Soldano series ii 60, Japanese made 60 watt. First attempt at an import slo I think. Pretty cool but ungodly loud to get that soldano gain as no master.

Dr. Z 6545, I had two of these and of all the amps I let go of they are the ones I wish I had back. A voxy, kt 45 on one channel and a marshally, srz 65 on the other channel. Wonderful tones.

Oh and a Buddha sd45 2x12 combo. Pre Peavey build fun amp but also ridiculously loud to get the good stuff.
