No Room for Herbert ....D'Moll ?

Hey , fellas, so when I had a full blown studio I had a Diezel Herbert (and a VH4 , amongst dozens of others ) but nowadays I have a small space (I mostly write for TV/Film at this point ) and use modelers for the most part but I've been itching to put together a few 'key' amps again , SO Herbert was always one of my favs but it's Huge lol ...I really don't have space for that leviathan lol...the D'moll is nice and small in comparison , Would that come close to satisfying that tone desire ? It's kinda hard to judge from the YT clips I've found so I thought I'd get some feedback from anyone who's had both ..thanks in advance :)

I haven't owned both, but played both. IME, the Herbert has a bit more hi-fi and 'kerrang' to its tone, whereas the Dmoll is a bit more woofy/saturated, especially in the low-end. Now, that *is* part of the typical Diezel sound, but in the Herbert that seemed more...acceptable. In the Dmoll I couldn't dial it out.
Also, you'll definitely miss the + Mode of CH2.
I don't completely remember the Herbert's cleans, but the Dmoll's cleans are some of the best ever in a high gain, multi-channel head!

This being said, if you were cramped for space and wanted a nice tube amp, I'd look into an 5150III 50W Stealth or Mesa Mark V:35 at this point with a nice vertical 2x12 cab (usually 20% less wide than a 4x12).

Well, back when D Moll just came out, my friend got one and sent it back immediately, even though he is a Diezel fan.

He said that it’s definitely not Herbert at all.
 
I think the D-Moll is Diezels most underrated amp. I can get seriously accurate Marshall tones when boosting the clean channel. I actually need to make a clip of that one day soon. The second channel is where I do all my metal rhythm. If I’m using single coils I use the third channel because it’s a little thicker voiced and has more gain, works great. The big thing with the D-Moll is it seems to be sensitive to what pickups you’re using and how high they’re set. I think some folks have had issues with this and have been very vocal about it on these forums. I have the D-Moll that’s for sale in the classifieds, and I’m mainly selling because I’m an amp slut and I tend to only own one or two amps at a time. So take what I say with a grain of salt.

This is my D-Moll in action right here. I have a mild boost with a silver Archer pedal, more for tonal coloration than anything. It doesn’t lop off low end like a TS or SD-1.

 


Posted by another forum member, boosted with an OD808. A little way in he switches to channel 3, then back to 2 (which is tighter and more open, the designated rhythm channel).

I have space issues here as well. I have to put things up and away to use other things. House is full of gear.

Haven't tried the stealth version .
I can't mic up cabs anymore unfortunately, I use a UA OX direct .
I tried a 5150 iii 100 watt (which in the past I liked) but it too 'tizzy' through the OX .
