Van Halen 1982 Soundboards

Man, Dave could be insufferable. Those soundboards really highlight his vocal abilities. lol
That's why when people were slamming Dave's live vocals when he rejoined us older VH guys were like "duh, he's always sounded that way live". It truly was "back then" a had to be there moment. Fans weren't over analyzing everything and there was no youtube or social media where you could see clips from last nights show. Just good party times.

I saw VH twice on the Diver Down tour, even got me and my girlfriend backstage passes because her name was Jamie lol. No kidding. Unfortunately all the band was gone once we got back there.

Spot on . Just speaking for myself back in the 80s I was too busy enjoying the moment to just stand there and analyze Dave’s vocals. From the roaring crowds I heard at the Cow Palace and Oakland Coliseum everyone else was enjoying the moment too .I guess technically I am speaking for everyone lol

Yep. If you wanted great vocals go see Journey, if you wanted a party go see Van Halen. And I'm a huge Journey fan of that era, they were fantastic live but Van Halen at that point in time was like seeing a great bar band and everyone is drunk.

First show I saw on the 82 tour in Nashville, they had After The Fire opening, they lasted 2 songs, didn't even get to play their hit. I mean people were throwing shoes at them. Think about how out of it you have to be to throw your shoes at the band lol. Second show on that tour they had Jack Mack and the Heart Attack, there's some deep dive Wiki for you. Booed mercilessly but they made it through lol.

Got to see Autograph open for them on the 84 tour, they did ok. And I honestly don't remember the band on the Fair Warning that opened. Still to this day I've never seen any band brutalized like After the Fire was - shoes, coins, drinks, you name it. After the second song the singer asked everyone to give them a chance, they never made it to the third song. Brutal, damn near riot.

After The Fire opened for them here in ‘82 also and as you can imagine they didn’t go over too well . Fair Warning tour in Oakland The Fools opened , they went over okay . WACF tour in Oakland Talas opened and they went over really good , I had no idea who they were or who Billy Sheehan was but they rocked . Speaking of Journey , Steve Perry’s vocals were amazing on the Escape tour here at the Cow Palace . They pretty much owned the Bay Area at that time

I saw VH in 1980, the opening band survived, the 86 Show at Folsom field Lover Boy was just getting 2 liters and tons of shit thrown at them they left early, Dio everyone was cool with him and his band.

Opening for VH was scary if you sucked
