That's not really what the Smith Mundt act did. It made it legal for the gov to engage in domestic propaganda campaigns, which I agree should be illegal. Wanna be careful with this stuff though because it threatens 1st amendment when limiting speech of private citizens.

1st Amendment? The Smith-Mundt act has nothing to do with private citizen speech and prevented the government for decades from propagating to Americans by intentionally utilizing any media sources on home soil. What happened during the Obama administration was that parts of it were lifted to allow for propaganda use through the internet since it's not just a US communication tool. You know, as long as it's not intentionally aimed at Americans

I don't think it matters if it ends up in the hands of where it's destined to go, I've done the math.
Part of the reason that immigration has yet to be fixed is the hopes on reliance of immigrants and their offspring to continue to feed it.

Yeah, all I am saying is that fixing the problem shouldn't limit private citizens first amendment rights (Including the evil MSM's) — it should limit the government's rights.

That's it's purpose. Has really nothing to do with us or the media. The act itself doesn't legalize the government propagating to citizens, it prevents it. It was just making life hard for the ABCs when things end up on the internet. I don't necessarily agree that it allows for our (edit: for our government to use the) media to propagate to us, but I feel it can indirectly allow for it if the media's sources of information aren't from the US.
