School me on Mercyful Fate and King Diamond

OG Mercyful Fate fan here. I remember buying the EP in 1982 at an obscure import record shop with the nun on the cover and having to hide it from my parents...Lol... i showed it to my band and we covered Doomed by the Living Dead, Devil Eyes, and Corpse without a soul. Those backyard party gigs were a trip.... We covered MF, JP, IM, Slayer, Metallica....

MF EP, Melissa, and Don't break the Oath are my favs.... kind of lost interest after that....

Funny thing, our singer at the time was able to nail the vocals of King Diamond pretty well. But he ended up leaving the music scene and becoming a successful, prominent international banker.... I still keep in touch with him from time to time... the dude is loaded now...lol...

Nobody ever mentions Dead Again. God damn, my favorite album. All songs are classics, the night is just amazing and Torture, Banshee, Mandrake, sucking your blood.

Ahhhhh. Love that album.

Oh, and all the other ones too!!!😂

My "Captain Obvious" answer for Mercyful Fate would be to start with Don't Break The Oath and Melissa. If you like what you hear, dive into the "reunion" albums starting with In The Shadows and Into The Unknown.

For King Diamond, start with Abigail and Them. If you like those, check out The Eye and Conspiracy.

OK. I'm listening to the first song (Evil) on the first album (Melissa) right now. Damn, this shit JAMS. Thanks for the suggestions, everyone!

Legendary, I know, but I never really checked out King Diamond or Mercyful Fate. What albums (or concerts on YouYube) should I start with?

Live at the Fillmore 2015.. pro video. Sure there will be some studio touch ups but King still can do it live and he brings it night after night.

Besides that, there are simply too many good albums. Even the later Mercyful Fate albums are great.

I haven't heard any really bad King Diamond or Mercyful Fate stuff (unless you find the satanic and occult imagery bad lol). That into solo on Egypt is just awesome; really, the whole In The Shadows album is awesome. Plus, I like it has the song about the Bell Witch, because I'm from Tennessee, though a few hours from where it took place.

..this album if I recall, was after a long lay off and he got Denner and Sherman back on board. It kicks some ass. There is only one King and he brings the best out of everyone album after album. There are some crappy albums yes ( Voodoo) but overall there is so much material that he can lean on. Very few bands can say that.

In the Shadows is a masterpiece. The entire thing

Great album! My next favorite after DBTO and Melissa.
