School me on Mercyful Fate and King Diamond

My "Captain Obvious" answer for Mercyful Fate would be to start with Don't Break The Oath and Melissa. If you like what you hear, dive into the "reunion" albums starting with In The Shadows and Into The Unknown.

For King Diamond, start with Abigail and Them. If you like those, check out The Eye and Conspiracy.
And Fatal Portrait!

so much good stuff.

Abigail is the GOAT for sure. That album and Conspiracy are what got me really into King.

Here are my favorites from each band, and there’s literally nothing from either I don’t like. Like anything else I prefer certain eras but it’s all solid.

King Diamond:
• Abigail
• Them
• Conspiracy
• Puppet Master
• House of God
• VooDoo

Mercyful Fate:
• Into The Unknown
• Dead Again
• 9
• Don’t Break the Oath

As I said, I like the WHOLE KD/MF discography’s but these in particular are my favorites.

We talk about all these power house bands but how many people realize just how many incredible albums KING has had?? Don't forget the EYE in there too. It's ridiculous how much killer material he has. This isn't coincidence, this is a guy who has created a unique world of low growls and high piercing falsetto around insane riffage.

Also, bit of a sleeper and not a lot of people seem to like it but Abigail II is the last of the "older sound" before changing the sound in the post 2000 era. That album has some kick ass playing and I like the songs/production. So really, King has very few crappy albums.
