Best replacement for a Floyd 1000?

I agree. I'll take a Gotoh any day.

The 1000 series is so inconsistent, it's not even funny. You MIGHT get one that works smoothly, and another that has fine tuners with only half the travel and they lock up, some you can't turn, (even after lubing them up), arms that fit sloppy and click, or come loose after a couple dive bombs, pure garbage. Gotohs are consistently good, every time.
This

Can't go wrong with an OFR. I've had the knife 'insert' edges break on me, so no go on that design. The 1000s I've had in the many 08/09 USA Charvels have had many gigs, no issues...but, in the end I swapped them for OFRs.

you guys are making me worry about my trems now, lol. I'm gonna have to look closely at the knife edges and see if they are wearing.

My old 91 Hamer Centaura had a Schaller Floyd with knife edges; one cracked after about 10 years of use. Bought the guitar new. Ibanez RG550 form 87, Gotoh knife edge also cracked. No inserts for me after that.

guess there is no substitute for the real thing.
If you find an old Kramer Focus from the 80s, they came with OFRs...if it's cheap enough, grab and pirate the Floyd then re sell. Maybe that's too much work lol but most of my OFRs came that way...of course, this was when those Focus were 300 bucks...

that's good advice, but too much work, lol. If I see any issues, I'm going straight up wallet rape most likely.

Definitely will be watching Marketplace a little closer now :p
