Withdrawn Friedman Phil X with circuit mods

Drop down to the CONCLUSION if you dont wanna read all the details.

I recently grabbed the Friedman SS (I fondly refer to as the SS Supreme) that Jeremy did similar mods to.
I've owned the most of amps that Friedman has put out. I enjoyed all but 1 of them (wasn't a fan of an early, noisy, original PT). They have better gain than anything Marshall is putting out, with a fantastic effects loop and master volume.
The Phil X was my favorite, due to the great sounding single channel and more open sound, compared to the others. Plexi to hotrodded JMP, it was good.

The original SS was my 2nd fav.
Jeremy's mods made the SS V1 more versatile, opened it up, making it less stuffy in the mids, brighter, tighter, with more gain options, including the most useful NFB and Depth knobs. He basically fixed the "polished/refined" sound of the Friedman amps, that many people wish was more "Marshally."

CONCLUSION:
I'd be tempted by the GZ modded X if I hadn't scored the GZ SS. Knowing what I know now, after having the SS, I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

I highly recommend the GZ modded X to anyone wanting a versatile, Marshally sounding amp that goes from vintage crunch, to brown sound, to heavier 90s sounds, to tighter and ganier modern sounds. I bet Phil X would pick it up himself, if he got to play it.

I've always loved the vibe and the single channel simplicity of the Phil-X. Never played one in person, but I can't think of anyone's online demo of a Phil-X that doesn't sound really good - even 'phone in the room' clips of the X sound good. This one is exceptional sounding. I'd prefer this to a factory stock one hands down. GLSW.

surprised this is still up, that thing sounds baller in your clips. If wasn't committed to another deal, I would have grabbed this.
Agreed. I was literally doing math in my head to justify this purchase when I saw Brian's modded 2203 yesterday in the classifieds. I've got one of Brian's amps and it is my favorite head. Period. So I had to snag Brian's 2203 while it was available. If not for that, I'd have closed the deal on this Phil-X. It just sounds so dam good.

Dunno if it helps, but here is a buddy enjoying the Friedman SS that @RedPlated modded:

Looks incredible
Did some additional updates to the amp…

Added black knobs , black power switch washers and black mini toggle switch washers.

I also updated all the Mallory 150 capacitors to Synergy. The amp looks and sounds even better now.

Looks slick with the black aesthetic vs original - tempting!
I think you've played or had the Hellion? You'll dig the X if you liked the Hellion. The SS Jeremy modded gets there, leaning towards the "plexi" vibe. It's the best thing I've had for Wylde/Lynch type tones.
I know the market is 💩 right now, but I'm surprised this hasn't sold yet. My other amps haven't been lit up since I got the SS.

Owned a Hellion for a little bit - buddy owns it now. Was tempting for sure - looks amazing - probably sounds just as good. The Friedman sig amps seem to have a more raw voice and maybe a bit more volume that the BE100's at the time.
