Aaaaand, I'm disappointed. The first song they dropped grew on me pretty quick, and I love it. The rest? I found it a snooze fest. With growls.. Totally disappointed..
this. i remember being a youngster in 1999 trying to learn songs off of Still Life. Just looking at those tabs, and the way he writes riffs, had me convinced of their brilliance.Opeth are brilliant and do no wrong.
They’re entirely on their own level.
It’s not even fair how good they are. I get why some dislike the direction they’ve taken, but imo they transcend genre.this. i remember being a youngster in 1999 trying to learn songs off of Still Life. Just looking at those tabs, and the way he writes riffs, had me convinced of their brilliance.
I tried and tried. Cannot get into them AT ALL.It’s not even fair how good they are. I get why some dislike the direction they’ve taken, but imo they transcend genre.
I just appreciate what they do with an open mind and go along for the ride.
My first real exposure was seeing them live back in like 2003.It’s not even fair how good they are. I get why some dislike the direction they’ve taken, but imo they transcend genre.

Opeth live is a spiritual experience. My first real exposure was seeing them live back in like 2003.
I don't think I ever could've grown to appreciate them like I have if it weren't for that. I was so blown away by how they performed, it gave me the patience to really dive into their catalog back then.
Yeah. The ultimate downside to having a keyboard player in your band is that they want to play keys all the time. It's one thing to write parts tastefully and hire someone to play them live. It's a different thing to have them involved in the writing process. Keyboard players want to put keys all over everything.Ok so got a chance to start listen and I agree with Napalm in that I am disappointed, although song 2 with Ian Anderson's spoken word is really good ..... for me they have never been the same since they actually hired a keyboard player to be in the band...imo since they added a full time keys play they have relied on the keys to create the atmosphere instead of the guitars and drums (and vocals of course) ... might stop listening now and put on Still Life, just a masterpiece
I just saw them last month. Great set.Opeth live is a spiritual experience.
It's growing on me. Sounds better after a few more spins. Finding S4 pretty killer too, actually...Got a lot going on, Ian Anderson on the flute too, I believe..Have to say...I think its pretty strong actually
yes for sure .. saw them on the Blackwater park tour .. was insane. Sadly for me the music has slowly drifted into a style I never liked so I bailed on themOpeth live is a spiritual experience.
I hate to say it, but... agreed. Still Life will be in my collection until I can't hear anymore.Yeah.
