When I play through my gear I always hear it different to when someone else plays through it.

Hope this doesen't sound rude but I'm not sure what the point is you are making. what does EVH have to do with this.

He also wouldn’t look like Ed if he wore the exact same clothing, but in that case too the “gear” is exactly the same. The problem is more so these guy’s lack of awareness of whether they’re listening for tone or playing and distinguishing the 2. It’s not that hard to distinguish imo
