Nah. I'm not sure how long that box was around, but that badge was on all pickup boxes that came before the current cardboard box they sell their pickups in.
That's a random pickup in a Gibson box. That's the old box they used for everything. I have a 500T that came in a box like that with that sticker. But that pickup is not Gibson. Gibson don't use brass baseplates, and their wires are either braided shielded for the PAF-types or gray for the 4-con...
I like the Custom too, but I'm really enjoying the CS JB that I recently got.
I like Duncans overall, personally. But I like mixing Duncans with DiMarzios. I'm really enjoying the JB/Air Norton combo that I currently have.
Both Duncan and DiMarzio have pickups that I like and that I don't...
You can order the Custom with the braided shielded wire. That one is thicker. I think the upcharge is pretty minimal. It's not a CS pickup. Just a Custom Floor.
If you wanna split the pickups, you gotta make sacrifices.
Dude, can't you hear the bloom? The sweetness? The harmonic complexity?
You can totally tell the gear used here isn't over 30 years old.
I bet the IR's were made with Chinese gear, even.
On a serious note, the tone is cool! Playing could've been a tiny bit tighter at parts, but for a quick...
It's either EHX or Tung Sol. But I agree, EHX are harsher.
But Tung Sols can certainly be harsh as well. I wouldn't call either of them smooth whatsoever.
Shuguangs can also be bright, but they're a grindy kinda bright. Kinda like a Duncan Distortion or a Vintage 30 where it's mostly high-mid...
I actually did try it. It does have more bottom-end than the JB, but I wouldn't say it's higher output. They're close to the same. The Custom has the stronger magnet, but JB has the heavier wind. Plus the EQ is very close to the opposite of the JB overall. At least to my ears.
No, what I meant is I have one JB in one guitar, and I like how that guitar sounds. I don't want to remove or change the JB in that one guitar.
I have another guitat that sounds thinner and quieter acoustically, and I kinda want to bring it along the lines of the other guitar that currently has...
Yeah, but if the Aldrich is not spaced as wide as a Trembucker. That probably means it certainly has a few more turns of wire in there (if they're indeed using the same wire gauge), so it's not just the spacing that's accounting for the extra copper in there like it is on a Trembucker.
The only...
Logic would lead me to believe it is. It is reported to be almost 1K more DCR. They allegedly use the same kind of magnet, I would assume wound with the same wire gauge (44, though I have no way of knowing for sure), and they use similar materials. The spacing is not the same, but it's not like...
I wish they'd be more specific as to what the DR copied off the SLO.
They say "preamp", but I'm pretty sure the tone stack is different. At least on Modern mode. So what do they mean by "preamp"?
Pretty sure the "official" Peavey version of the story is EVH requested something based on his José or whatever, but he never actually gave them the amp, so James Brown learned that EVH dug the SLO, and based the 5150 off it.
How did you like it? Did you have any trouble balancing them out? It balances fine with the '59, but it's on the edge of almost not balancing. Is the A2 magnet strong enough? :)
Got one on my LTD EC that I love. I love it so much I'm getting one for my Les Paul.
On the LTD, it's paired with a '59. It's alright. Right now on the Les Paul, I've got a Distortion Neck in there. It's alright too, but it's a bit much. Out of the two, I like the '59 paired with the Custom...
