I know you prefer the Marshall, but I personally couldn't disagree more.
Not to say it sounds bad. But since it came after the 5150, to my ears, it certainly doesn't sound better. I don't hear it as being more dynamic whatsoever. If you look at the waveforms, I'd bet a million bucks the 5150...
I don't dislike them as much as most people here, but I certainly wouldn't buy one. Looks super dated.
That green finish would look great on a Les Paul.
Would also look much better with cream plastics, black pickups, and black nobs.
Very interesting suggestions so far! There is an Anderson H3 for sale locally. Is that JB-ish at all, though? I thought those were very broadband with lots of lows and highs.
Yeah, I totally agree.
But yeah, all of my LTD's have had the best fretwork out of the box than any of my other guitars. I'd even say as good or maybe even better than my Gibson which was supposedly Plek'd. But you're absolutely right. I had an Ibanez SZ some time ago that even after a fret job...
To be completely honest, I've never had an LTD (or a Korean guitar for that matter) that was 100% defect-free. Usually very minor and purely cosmetic, but the chewed up bindng wouldn't make me return a guitar.
The fret thing... that I totally get. The one thing that I love about LTD's is that...
I first got it years ago because of Arch Enemy.
I mean... it can do C Standard and sound killer. You just kinda need to tweak accordingly. Like I said, I think it likes the SD-1 better than the TS808, but as far as I know, Anthems of Rebellion is a JB into an unboosted Peavey XXX with some...
I got the Custom in my Strat. I actually replaced the Custom with the JB in my LTD. I think they're almost polar opposites as far as EQ goes, LOL.
Is the Aldrich like that as well, then?
+1 on the JB not having harsh highs. It does have the cutting/focused upper mid spike, but I think that's a good thing. Helps it sound so up-front. But the highs are definitely not as present as a Duncan Distortion, or any of the lower output PAF-ish offerings. It's just not possible with such a...
Yeah, if you thought the Custom Custom was brittle, I doubt you'd like the JB or most other Duncans. The Custom Custom has got to be one of the smoothest most well-behaved pickups in the Duncan line.
For sure! I much prefer the tone from lighter strings. They sound crunchier and more lively and tighter if you know how to control them. I unfortunately don't. I tend to pick pretty hard, so I try to find a happy balance between what sounds good and what I can play.
I actually recently made the...
Toying with the idea of swapping pups on my Les Paul. I'm enjoying the JB in my LTD. Kinda want something along the lines of a slightly hotter, tighter, and meaner JB, but not as different as a Duncan Distortion is. Kinda want something in between a JB and a Distortion leaning more towards the...
I haven't. Lightest I've tried is 52, and it's too little for me. 59 in C is actually roughly the same tension as a 46 in E, so I don't think it's too unreasonable.
I sold off that stock JB, so I never got to A/B them. I'm really curious as to how they compare. My initial impressions is this one sounded like a really good JB, but I have no idea what's different in it.
Regarding the construction, this has butyrate bobbins, but I'm not sure how that impacts...
I remember I first got the JB years ago because I really liked the tone on Anthems of Rebellion. It was one of the first passives that I fell in love with. Before that, I was EMG 81 or death, LOL. The Duncan Distortion was the other passive that I loved at the time. But that one is very close to...
Oh, I didn't get the set. The guy also had a CS '59, but my guitar already has a production '59 stock in there that I kinda want to change, so I want to do some more research before replacing it.
Honestly, I kinda like it. I just wished it was a tad hotter, but I also don't feel a rush to...
