@romanianreaper they will sound different. Generally speaking, a 2x12 cab will sound bigger/broader. A single 1x12 or two single 1x12 cabs will sound more focused.
The new album was cool. Good to see pioneering metal bands still going strong and delivering the goods.
Kinda nice getting a little variety with something that’s not all detuned as well.
Btw this is one of the best live lineups they’ve had. Caught them at the Shoreline in CA a couple days...
@ClintN667 hope KSR follows through with a 100 watt rackmount version. Bonus points if it can be switched between mono & stereo and able to use any of the major octal poweramp tubes in a mix match. I’d love to run my Rectifier Recording Preamp through a KT66/KT88 power amp.
First time I played with scooped mids was using an ADA MP-1. Accidentally figured out you could have a negative setting on the MP-1 and was instantly rewarded with chugs.
Those new amps are going to keep you busy for a while. Would love to hear your thoughts on the Mojave.
I remember when they came out. I always wanted to get my hands on one and find out for myself.
@MetalThrasher while you're waiting to find a tech who can help, check out YouTube clips.
There's a plethra of good YouTube channels which cover biasing and safety.
Doesn't hurt to listen/watch how these channels explain the process. It'll only arm you with more knowledge.
@napalmdeath you’re right that they make a slick little device, but I’m super lazy. Having to unplug and plug for each socket is tedious.
I wish they’d make a setup with 4 sockets and a rotary switch like the TAD. I’d gladly hand my money over for that.
But for now, that cheap little Black...
Kinda weird how the preamps I grew up playing have now taken on “vintage” status and tripled to quadrupled in price.
I remember the days of scoring ADA MP-1’s for $125 all-day at Starving Musician in Santa Clara, CA. Now people covet them.
@Little B I’d bet your students are in shock because...
Clip on how to use a bias probe…. It’s similar to the one you bought. Btw I bought one of these Black Friday ones too. It’s a good deal!!!
@MetalThrasher remember tube amps contain high voltages which can be lethal. I highly recommend learning about safety before diving into an amps...
I have (1) 90’s Sovtek Wafer 5881 that is a close match.
It is off by 3 mA to (3) good Mesa 430’s.
Any techs out there think it would work ok with the (3) 430’s?
@napalmdeath i got to give them their day in court. The TAD’s seem to get good reviews.
I tried the 6L6GC’s Preferred Series from TheTubeStore.com years back and really liked them. It’s too bad they’re out of production.
They were made by Shuguang and were their take on the TAD red base...
@psychodave 🤣 my amp had Mesa GRN 430’s in it. One of them ended up taking a dump while I was playing. Tried finding a single 430 since the others still read good and are all very close current wise. But yeah, the 430’s sounded good.
Hi all,
Curious as to what brand 6L6's folks are using in their Dual Rectifier 2 Channel amps. Feel free to drop a recommendation.
I tried JJ 6L6GC's and they're just not my cup of tea. They had too huge of a bass response and sounded too saturated/creamy.
Thinking of going with Svetlana...
Hi @Monkey Man and thank you for the warm welcome. Definitely a fan of the squared circle and all the greats who’ve graced it.
But, the name was a nickname (Bossman) given to me in school. The 415 is the area code I’m from. I’d of kept it Bossman, but I guess it’s a popular name, hence the...
@MetalThrasher I prefer the ones without Reverb. You can put a R2 Volume Pot in its place to balance the volume levels between all the channels. It makes the amp much more useable.
@PurityS.L.G I've heard the JP2C isn't as open/raw sounding as the vintage marks. A lot of people say they're compressed sounding.
Based off your experience with it, is there any truth to that?
I've been wanting to snag one for a minute now, but feel it might be redundant to what I...
@MetalThrasher check the back panel of your amp on the right side. You should see a series of numbers imprinted on the backplate.
BTW they put the Presence knob on the front panel of long heads w/o Reverb.
