There is no physical way to wire a pair of 8ohm speakers for an 8ohm load short of disconnecting one speaker.
New speakers at 16ohm can do 8ohm but that's the most expensive route.
Find a cheap Weber Z matcher instead of replacing your speakers.
You gain the ability to plug into whatever head...
Forgot about the DSL but that was released 1998 and wasn't really popular until early/mid 2000s. Arguably a better, superior amp than the 90s JCM900 ever was.
Then again, seems with every new Marshall head released it does a superb job with emulating the amps of previous eras before it...
Good luck getting WCR pickups new or used sometime this century.
I had a WCR Godwood in the bridge of my Les Paul for 2 years and it was great but it wasn't the best I've ever had.
Been extremely happy with wax-potted Duncan Antiquity UOA5. With the potting and magnet swap it elevates an...
"90's Marshall" is curious because the 90s was arguable the era of Mesa amps and the Dual Rectifier sound.
For a 90s Marshall, a JCM900(?) kinda tone, that relies heavier on diode clipping and power amp compression than in earlier decades.
Lots of 90s grunge or post-grunge guitars (again, made...
Ah, the modern Gibson Les Paul...yes, there are a few questionable choices and design flaws but otherwise an extremely well built instrument with that iconic muscle car tone.
I'll second what DistortED says about the Faber bridge hardware. It helps unlock some extra clarity and sustain with a...
Yes - bigger, clearer and warmer all around. That's considering the EL34 apples to KT77 oranges I know, but it's just a superior Orange all-in-all.
I have only tried the JJKT77 in an SEL/AX84 build and similar broad sound but nothing special.
I really don't care it's a new production New...
I prefer the Telefunken new prod EL34s as runner up to the venerable but endangered Svetlana Winged =C= EL34. They have that charasmatic mid high thing but detail/presence in the bass that I love about the =C= too.
I have tried Ruby EL34B, Mullard, EH, JJ and they honestly don't have a bad...
Got hooked on RobRobinette's site lately as the guides basically share a lot of info with my Traynor YBA-1 amp.
Having some success following guide and modifying my 68' Traynor YBA-1 lately. Voiced a lead channel, tweaked the voicing a bit and it sounds so much better suited for guitar now...
As the title says, for a 68' YBA-1 what are the limits of the type of rectifier tube that can be added? It's got an extra 5v tap on the original transformer.
I've tried the wire-round resistor in series but it has a weird, non-linear ripple effect with heavy volume and not a lot of sag even at...
Have the Angry Charlie, love it so much that when I briefly owned the Bogner Red I decided to immediately give it the boot because the AC was just that good - and it had more gain on tap than the 'Red' past the 2 o'clock mark. Also very similar sounding, which was surprising.
But the Burnley...
Anyone ever have the pleasure of comparing the two?
I finally have the Jouster along with its' leaner brother, the Jester. Actual full-voltage 12AX7 preamps in the form of pedals (as well as the humongous footprint size to sport it all). I can get girthy, 3D gainy sounds all day almost like a...
Have 67 or 68' Yba-1. Love it.
Changed out some things:
1M volume pots.
47uf cathode bypass cap @50v, Xicon brand
.022 tonestack change
.1 to .022 presence control (done by accident but removed lots of fizz and retained some usability)
50k neg feedback loop
22k 2w between screens &...
Have had my 67" Yba-1 for awhile now and have only changed out the pots for volume I and volume II.
It brought the amp right into the sweet spot and really sounds like a "guitar' amp now. However, it sounds a little 'immediate' even with my Alnico II pups in my les paul. It feels like it could...
Story: Friend has a bass amp that is most likely in need of some replacement caps. I'm aware that transistor based amps run at lower voltages and higher amperages and there seems to be more caps per quote than their tube-based counterparts.
It's an Ampeg SVT 350 AV (anniversary edition) or...
So I'm working on my lil' 5w class A El84 for and amp about to order some caps and whatnot to get the thing going and I couldn't help but feel (as I looked over to the other side of the room) that my poor 67" Yba-1 wants to have some updated components too.
Now just for the record - The amp is...
