Yes that’s exactly what I have always heard. I was nervous when I flipped on my amp plugged in to hit that first cord I thought it was gonna be bright and explosive it was just the opposite. Strange
So, I always heard they were bright and hot and super gainy. Anyone else. New guitar, put in a new battery, sounds the same. Just curious. Definitely not what I was expecting. They still sound good, just dark and a little muddy. Just upped the mids and treble on the amp and it’s fine. Huh.
To clarify, I play a lot of Van Halen, DefLep stuff. So I love classic rock and I LOVE hi gain….BOTH.
I DO NOT like bright fizzy tone.
Thus, I was thinking the EVH series or Iconic would fit in. The way the world is, no one seems to have anything in the stores so doing a lot of YouTube listening.
I don’t play out anymore or care to. Sold my tube amps a year ago. Been playing through my Yamaha THR 30…which I love. It really does sound great. However, l do miss that big tube tone but the THR is all I now have. So….thinking of getting back.
Im a classic rock player, EVH, Def L, Sabbath...
Glad to know I’m not alone I just don’t wanna waste a bunch of time get to the freaking point and let me hear the amp. I’m also more of a melodic type of guitar player so I want to hear chord progressions Van Halen type of riffs, Def Lep etc. I don’t want to hear a bunch of mindless picking...
When I click on and the guy says….ok, got some reverb, delay, and a little chorus …..I’m out.
I want to hear the amp pure and naked….no effects, no studio processing…..I just want to know what the amp sounds like! Simple.
I also hate the chatty guys. Just shut up. I don’t want your opinion...
Having short fingers, I’ve always had to do work arounds on those stretches. Sounded just as good. No one noticed. Then I found myself doing my own work arounds on numerous songs….sounded the same, no one noticed. Then it became a game….how can I play this song, this chord riff in an easier way...
People stop over, see my guitars in a rack….”You play guitar?” Never fails. “Hey, play something!” I break out into a mesh of 8-10 classic riffs. They are dumbfounded. “Holy crap! This is awesome! I had no idea! Your husband is like a rock star!…etc. Cracks me up.
I am certainly not...
Maybe I’m just old school….I am old. Got a Line 6 Relay for fun. Yeah, the freedom of not messing with a cord or tripping one one is nice, but my brain says you need a direct connection to the guitar and amp that I can visibly see to complete the cosmic chain. I don’t really hear a difference...
