Yeah 20 watts. Super compressed, easy to play. Definitely had plenty of push for home playing, but probably anyone playing the types of music that amp fits would want something bigger than 20 watts. But who knows, maybe in the right set up or with PA support.
The hovercraft amps are cool. The one I had was pretty gainy though. Went straight to super-heavy. I recorded a little demo when I listed it for sale. Was also a bit noisey, though I still think there was a lot of bang for the buck.
The current GT1 basically combines the GTL and GTO circuits into a single head. I haven't played it side-by-side with an OG GTL, but I really dig the GT1. Quite reasonably priced IMO if you do want to step to owning a head.
The DA120 can definitely cop some nice mid gain tones and the FAC works very well. I don’t know if you’ll get all the way to the clean of a turned down matamp, but definitely NMV with gain on 5 sorta territory.
I don’t remember get anything approaching by jangly with the green priest, but it...
The DEs feel solid to me but definitely feel more mid-tier. Lots of folks love em though, I’m probably a snob.
The USA cyclops with trapeze I had didn’t have lots of overtones that I noticed, but it did seem noticeably less slinky than a stoptail. I don’t understand the physics of that enough...
$2500 isn’t a super great price on a yeti, particularly if it used. Easy to find used Dunables at 1500-2000. Even some new around 2200. Just FYI.
Used Balaguer imports are a sick deal IMO. They play well, sound decent and are well outfitted. As you noted though, they somehow feel a touch cheap...
I’ve used two techs around here that are active: KG electronics works out of his garage in Raleigh and DJL is in Greensboro. Both did reasonable work quickly. Diezel’s are super well documented and I’d guess either could solve your problem pretty easily.
I definitely would not pickup a monomyth to get some sweet 70s rock tones. At least the skeleton key is a modern fire breather.
Somebody mentioned MGL up-thread and maybe a 2-channel 50 watt HG circuit on the used market with a boost would do it. Hell even the non-HG with a boost would. And...
+1 on the Alta being _perfect_ for that as long as you can hang with midi footswitching. The tech 21 midi mongoose works perfectly with the alta and doesn't require much midi deep diving.
The key to the alta being so great for this is the midi-switchable bright/clip/modern settings. The right...
I bought an Alta directly from Jason earlier this year and other than adding an extra hundred or two in postage it was no big deal.
The Alta is amazing and Jason was awesome, wouldn’t hesitate to buy directly from him again.
MGL 50 HG at 1550 shipped on reverb. If I didn’t have the non HG I’d scoop this immediately. Almost

He told me the custom amp were still in the works, but it wasn't clear when.
Distracted myself from work for a minute and made a really nasty iPhone Mic clip comparing the modded dual rec vs. my Headfirst Alta. It actually reflects the difference in sound in the room pretty well.
The odd...
I'm still getting a feel for it. Dual rectifiers have never really been my thing, but I figured if any of them (other than a rev C or something) will convince me it's a Hermansson modded one. I'm broadly more of a Marshall sort of guy and so it's not surprising that it's taking me a minute to...
Oh and that’s shipping to me. I didn’t have a rectifier on hand and had him source one for me. They are pricier in Europe but it saved me the trouble of shipping it over to him.
