I would like to give credit where it's due though. I like Kyle's vids because of how consistent they are- if I really want to hear some differences I feel like I can trust what I'm hearing since he always uses the same basic setup & mic.
Now he's the second. My first was a IIC HRG. It was a raw, philthy animal stock, with stunning cleans, and my experience was exactly the same as Tom's. The amp became polite. I think that's why I prefer the IIB for rhythms- it wantes to rip your face off where the IIC+ wantes to serenade you...
This is one reason why Kyle has 47K subscribers, and my page (which I've been putting out vids since 2016) has 1K subscribers. That said, I totally get it & give zero fucks, I just do it for fun and to pay it forward so my production value is minimal and right to the point. I'd rather spend...
That's what "they" say, but I've had three blue stripes & played others and for the most part I couldn't stand to listen to them they made my ears ring so bad from the frequencies. The only exception was the 1999 blue III+ I had.
This green stripe, even stock, is a completely different animal...
Yes-ish. I have a friend with an early S IIB+, and another with a late SR IIB+. The early one is like early IIBs, pretty loose and classic rock-ish. Clip below.
The late one is a killer, just like all 60W IIC+ and IIIs. It was the first B I played (bottom center) & it blew me away compared...
Well, they're not popular! Everyone discounts the IIB. To be fair though, this level is the Coli, not any IIB. The IIB Colis have no negative feedback & crush balls.
Yeah after his performance there's nothing I was going to show you guys. 😆
Listening to the clips again today, you know what tone the RI really killed in the room? This one. The mid hump the RI has I really think is in a good place for a mix.
In general I agree with you, however this green doesn't have that problem. I'm pretty sensative to ear fatigue and this is the smothest III I've had by far (out of 9). Other friends with greens say they kill, and are very close to a IVa, so who knows..?
The OG IIs and IIIs are all organic & raw. That said, the IIIs are a little stiffer under the fingers where the C+ is magic how it combines liquidity & bounce with attack.
The III blue is as aggro as marks ever got, and the red / green aren't far behind. All three more aggressive than a IIC+.
You should. I've had 3 of my IIIs III+ modded by Mike and all of them have been a SOLID improvement.
I also had one III++ modded and IMO it took it too far, so I recommend sticking with III+.
Technically it's the Loop Mod, I just affectionately call it a B+ since the C+ was similarly a loop mod. Anyway, it makes the loop work well, and adds some gain.
If you don't appreciate the opinion of someone who's had 9 C+ and ~30 Marks, then you'll never be satisfied until you buy them and see for yourself.
There were no tonal losers in this room, only shades of awesomeness.
Yes you can definitely tell which is the OG & which is the RI. HOWEVER, the RI HAS the C+ sound and feel where a IIB and III, as much as I love them for their own reasons, do not. In terms of THAT sound I'm happy with the RI in ways that I never was with the V, JP or VII.
