I'll keep adding thoughts as they come into my head.
Now that I've had some time to reflect, I'd say the push of the DRG RI is pretty much on par with the push of an OG SRG. Now that I think about it, the mid character is more SRG like as well. Those have a similar-ish mid-hump (that goes away...
It's my favorite death & destruction rhythm amp of all time. The gain structure is a little more raw & ragged, and the mids are a little more hollow, but it pummels & grinds like nothing else. It's closer to a IVb (with way bigger balls) than anything else.
I have a feeling that how different people define "scooped" varies. With the setup tonight, from my perspective, the RI could not out scoop the OGs and be something that I wanted to listen to.
I fully respect where you're coming from, and hope you have the chance to get your hands on one to do some empirical testing!
The III+ crushes with the 7 string, best III I've had for sure.
Yeah it is. Which sounds great here, but honestly in the live band is a negative. I've always struggeld with C+es live because the space on the 750 between disappeared & boxy is razor thin, where this is not the case with my other Marks. Since I also don't run AS much 80hz live, it's possible...
@frontline205 made the 5 hour drive to bring his IIC+ Reissue to my place today where we set it up & play tested against my OG IIC+, III+ and B+, with my 2001 Recto Trad cabs as well as a newer 1960A cab. Hell yeah!! Wanted to start a fresh thread where we can talk about the experience. He was...
I don't follow. I'm not worried about the cab hurting the amp, thinking the other way around. Please explain? Do you mean to say that a higher wattage speaker puts more load on the OT, all else equal?
FWIW, and sample set of 1, but the Rev C mod is one of the mods I've regretted doing. My last Triple G was an absolute crusher stock, had the C mod done, and it killed the amp for me. It took away the G balls and killed the clean channel, and was definitely not like my actual Rev C which was...
This is great, thanks for the info. The real question here is, say I have a 100W GB cab and I want to throttle it with a Simul 75W Mark head- I think this could get pretty iffy for the GBs. I know I could just run it in 25w Class A mode but that loses a little body, so I was curious if safe...
Keep in mind that this one & most of these are single tracked. The JH studio tones are what, 8 tracks? Fucking rhythm monster... Each with lower gain because that's what you need to do as you layer multi-tracks.
The JP does open up the feels when the channel volumes get up above ~1:30. Since there's no MV, which IMO was a big mistake, that's way too loud for most people. Even most bands. I tried working around this by running the volume up that high & then controlling the volume with the gain knob...
IMO, the IIC+ IS generally speaking a lower gain amplifier than most people think it is. The tone in most people's heads, unless you're thinking of Lukather or Schon, is easier to achieve with a IIC++.
Guys, question for you. Say for example I have a 100w head. Say I plug an 8 ohm load into the 8 ohm jack of the cab for a correct match, we can assume that at full tilt the head is putting out 100w to the speaker.
Now let's say we move the speaker to the 4 ohm jack on the head for a safe...
Haha also Lukather used Colis.
The theater that we play most of our gigs at gets tons and tons of mid level touring bands coming through. A couple of the shows I’ve played my 2B Coli through my Mesa trad cab, and the owner came out at one point to take pictures of my amp because he said it was...
