I had that those speakers in a Splawn 4x12 and loved it using my Splawn EL34 SS. The Creambacks on the bottom and T75s up top . I sold it to a friends son a few years ago and recently heard him play thru it at a gig using his Peavey 5150 and it sounded killer . He’s got those speakers very much...
So possibly there’s confusion here with what your friend is telling you, but I’m just taking a guess here . I would bet if he sent you a picture of the front panel of his amp it has a separate volume and gain control . There was confusion over it years ago at the once happenin’ Splawn forums...
That's interesting. I thought every production Splawn would have a master volume on the front panel but I guess it could be special ordered without one
Splawn amps have a standard master volume. When the OP started this thread he was speaking about the loop master volume that Scott started installing around 2009. Just speaking for myself it’s easy to dial in great tones playing at the house
I’ve had the RTM and JB in the same guitar , ash strat style with rosewood neck . The RTM is smoother but I wouldn’t say it’s less hot , didn’t sound that way to my ears
Seymour Duncan RTM , which was designed after an old JB Warrren D used back in the day or rough cast A5 magnet swap in the standard JB . I think one of those will get you closest to what you’re looking for . I prefer the rough cast A5 magnet swap , tames the highs a bit
Fortunately I got to see him many times in Maiden , heck I got to see Clive twice in Maiden. I know the stroke he had not long ago put limitations on his playing , hopefully he can enjoy retirement
Did you get the EVH cab ? I wouldn’t wouldn’t worry about a break in protocol , just have fun and play. After a while you won’t even think about the speakers breaking in
They had a decent amount of cash due to the advance they got from Geffen but they blew thru it pretty quick. The Les Paul replica was given to him by their manager at the time. He couldn’t get the sound he wanted from his BC Rich Warlock but I think it was used on parts of Night Train
