@cobrahead1030 good choice. Scott has sold me 2 headshells in the past.
Prices are fair and the fit & finish are excellent. Plus Scott is a pleasure to work with.
Last one I bought from him is housing a Mark 3+ DRG No Stripe w/ 105pt.
The IVa is a beast of an amp. I always find myself gravitating towards it or my IIC+/++'s when I have an itch to play a Mark.
BTW asked Mike about the IVb transitional model. He said there are only 2 IV circuits A & B.
The whole transitional model can be chalked up to using leftover...
A 3+ Red Stripe will get you close enough. I own IIC+/++'s in S,D,& H configurations and a 3+ Red Stripe HRG.
The difference is in the low mids. The IIC+/++'s seem to breath a little easier (aka IIC+ bounce).
The stock III's are a little more stiff and have hairy top ends. The 3+ mod...
Mike and I had this conversation a couple days ago when I was at Mesa. He did a IIC SR—>IIC+/++ SRG conversion for me.
The only difference in tone from a IIC—>IIC+ upgrade from a factory IIC+ would be the power transformer (100 vs 105), which is negligible.
If you have the export...
@Anxiety Serum ok so you found the blown fuse.
My 2 cents, replace the fuse and buy a new quad of tubes from TAD, Tube Amp Doctor.
Your old tubes are TAD, so they should have numbers on the base indicating their values.
Those numbers will enable TAD to provide you a matched quad which should...
Was there a burnt smell when the amp shut down?
If not, you most likely did not fry a screen resistor and just had an output tube go south.
The reason why the amp shut down is due to a fuse blowing. They do this to protect the amp.
You’ll need to replace the fuse and output tubes. I put a...
Mark III+ DRG No Stripe w/105pt. Pull Treble, Middle, Deep, Lead. GEQ different because I find the III’s a little brighter and tighter compared to the IIC+’s.
***May end up selling this one***
@PurityS.L.G good point. Most Mesa's are biased very cold. The stock bias point on my old Badlander 100 was 15ma.
Most EL34 amps run around 34ma. Not sure why it was biased to 15ma, but the tubes lasted long and sounded good.
@Jimty I spoke with Mike B about this earlier last week. He said there's no such thing as an A/B transitional circuit.
There are 2 circuits A & B. As far as those transitional models go, Mesa always used whatever parts they had.
Hence the reason you see early Mark IVb's with Mark IVa...

Rev E - It’s got an offer button. Just saying…
Keep the IV. Sonically, they hold up well for their age and are already starting to jump in value.
The VII will drop in value as more used ones pop up. You can always wait and score one cheaper in the not too distant future.
In regards to how the IV's stack up in the lineage of Marks, I'd...
@Markedman that CL ad is a scam. I’ve swapped texts with whomever it is. They refuse to talk via phone. They also have 2 other ads out of ATL. One for a VII and another for a No Stripe. The No Stripe pic was lifted from another CL ad.
