Thegame, you are spot on. It may have been one of the best moments ever to be a high schooler or just starting to get into music. Too bad the hard rock music scene went corporate and artists started compromising their music and wearing pink spandex and lipstick etc. It didn't last long after that.

I haven't played them all but the XTC classic gets my vote. Big open chords with the kerrang echoing out. Single notes dont sound tinny or piercing. Every channel is excellent and the plexi mode has a bark to it when cranked loud. However you must play cleanly or you will be exposed.

So did you buy the MM transformer? $350 is about right but try calling Bogner and see if they have any slightly used ones lying around. Your tech should be able to install it in no time plus you'll save on the shipping costs if you send the amp to Bogner. The coveted early 101b's had MM...

Billy was a real tone freak. Had all the Marshalls modified and knew what he wanted to get out of them. Always had choice guitars. I believe his tele was a 60's one as well as the 59 burst. He could have used gear from the early 80's but I guess he knew tone.

In the first video it's obvious that his music is better suited to be played with an orchestra than a rock band. Incredible and flawless picked note runs that must have had the classically trained musicians impressed.

Any Billy fans out there? Would love to hear him crank his Marshalls again in an arena. His live sound was ridiculous. When he hit an A chord it sounded like canons firing. One of my favorite tones ever.
