I wouldn't go overboard on the mids either, personally. Too much mids in modern tones just clash with the vocals and can sound cloudy/stuffy.
I guess it depends on what "modern tones" you're going after. You don't need to go overboard either, but are you going for an Andy Sneap/Colin...
On a related note, anyone has any experience with the EVH LBX II in a band setting? I'm getting offered one in a trade, and I'm really excited about it. I'm probably going to use it more for jamming at home and recording, but it'd be nice if it could pull off band practice. Just to know what I'm...
I kinda want to try to mod my SD-1 to make it louder. I use the level cranked, and even so, it sucks some level compared to it bypassed with hot pickups like Black Winters.
I was looking into the C6 mod, but since you said it actually makes the pedal quieter, I guess I should keep looking, lol...
The Hetfields, while fatter and chunkier than the standard 81/60, still have the typical EMG low-end rolloff compared to passives. So if you're looking for "good low end" where "good" means "abundant", look elsewhere.
They're also hotter than the 81/60 set, so I'm not sure they clean up all...
That looks really great! I'm not normally a fan of singlecuts with trems, but for some reason, the flat top Eclipse just looks right with a Floyd. Congrats!
I used to have my baritone tuned to Drop Bb with D'Addario 13-62, but I sold that guitar.
Right now, I have all my guitars tuned to Drop C with Ernie Ball 12-56's regardless of scale lenght.
To be honest, I've never found the "XJ" frets on LTD's all that jumbo.
Yes, they're larger than your average vintage frets, but they're definitely not as big as the stuff they put on Japanese Ibanez.
JME.
I like them for V1's in amps that are either too dark or too stuffy in the low mids.
They're definitely in the same family as Tung Sols, yeah. I'd say the EHX's are more over-the-top bright, and a bit more scooped in the low mids, thus, they can be mud-cleaners. They may be a hair less gainy...
I used to have a guitar with a RedActive in the bridge (original one, not the ones with the added dip switches) and an EMG in the neck. Yes, they're compatible, but I remember having to do some trickery to get it to work like flipping the quick connect plug on the pickup or the pot or maybe...
Yeah, black nickel like that. The folks at Schaller call it "ruthenium" and Ibanez/Gotoh call it "cosmo black". Not sure if its the same on all (chrome vs nickel, or something like that), but these are all close enough.
I'll look into those. Thank you.
I dug the locking Gotoh 510's that I put some time ago on a guitar I sold recently. I seem to remember they were better than the standard Gotohs they replaced, but that was some time ago. Other than that, I don't have experience with the standard Gotohs other than the old ones on my RG570, but...
Title says it. I need a 3x3 set of cosmo black/black nickel/however you want to call the smoky dark chrome color. I need to have the mounting screw at a 45 degree angle like this:
I normally dig locking Grovers, but they don't seem to make the locking versions in cosmo black. I've also had...
Well the Randall RD1 is more plug-and-play. It sounds mean with very minimal tweaking.
The Marshall has more tweakability, but it's a bit stuffy in the low mids. Nothing some tweaking and some tube swapping wouldn't fix, though.
Both sound particularly great through a 4x12.
