I had a Red Stripe Coliseum one, and a good friend had the Red Stripe 15/75 Simul head. By far my favorite version of the Mark III, and I have owned or played every version.
EP booster on a low setting (for the swirl effect) and the RC Booster for the split humbuckers, otherwise the tone chase needs to begin with the guitar. Then go to the speakers and cabinet. On a stock 84/85 C+.
One 1984 and Two 1985 C+ DRG short heads in the house, each bought for at least $1000.00 less than the new Re-issue. All hooked to the MESA rack mount amp switcher. Footswitch one up to all at a time. All set differently to maximize their best sounds. 1: Full on hellion into halfback 4x12, 2...
Three DRG Mark 2C+ amps when they were cheap, YES. A 1973 Goldtop LP Deluxe, routed for humbuckers cheap in the late 1980's, YES. Three C+ amps into a MESA amp switcher, all set differently, YES. Six EVM-12L loaded MESA cabs, YES.
I tried to like my 2-ch Triple, back in the '90s, going as far as putting a rackmount compressor in the loop to tighten it up. Matching MESA 4x12 cabs(2), but when I got my "loop modded" 1978 Mark I back, including the Analogman modded Boss OD-1, it was over. Move forward a few years, and I was...
I owned and sold that amp, and installed the R2 VOL dymo label. Still looking for the Green Stripe long head with the Pentode/Triode switch on the far right far right.
I envision many of these re-issues being on the used market soon or being used as one-trick ponies. Way too many channel switching compromises for the new generation.
Imagine being about one foot away from a 4x12 cab and not knowing that the "limit" knob on the C+ Coli worked in the reverse than you thought. Volume about 3. The SPL nearly knocked me to the ground.
