Day one with my new VH4 - WOW! :D

Few comments....

I spent much time with the Herbert and VH4 before buying, and the VH4 came out the victor for me for my wants and needs.
I spent time today in my home running my 13 guitars though every channel, observing how different the all sounded, especially because of varying pickups and body woods. (running 6L6's by the way)

This amp does a few thing like no other I own or have tried or heard
* less is more - not one front panel control leaves you wanting more - you can add to much too! (I love Deep)
* never had an amp like this VH4 that will "expose it all", every damn thing - down to intonation issues are pronounced! Clean up!
* best amp I ever played for working with guitar volume - unreal every channel
* this amp grinds and growls
* after 4 hours I finally realized that I was not using a single effect/reverb. Don't need anything ~ toss the G-Major.
* this amp sounds just like a modded....or wait it doesn't sound like anything but a Diezel - congrats an original voice
* There is always a debatable best single channel amp out there because personal taste is involved, however this is the best 4 channel amp on the planet - Every channel sounds fantastic with the right guitar and pickups. Period!

Quick run down of my guitars though my VH4...

SG with Burst Bucker Pro's - great! on channel 2,3,4
Les Paul Custom with 498/490 - perfect on channel 2,3,4
Axis with stock DiMarzio's - very loud on 1 and best on ch2,3
ESP Lynch Purple Tiger - ch3 amazing match
PRS 20th - every pickup /every channel unreal!!!
OLP Tone Zone/Air Norton split tuned down step - all channels amazing including singles
Ibanez RG Seymour Duncan Custom/Jazz - my favorite bridge pickup, needs dialing in
Charvel model 2 J-90c - rips and grinds ch2,3,4
Malmsteen strat - real cool 1,2,3
Tele - 1,2 best
BC Rich Ironbird BDSM stock - loves 3,4
Gretch Tennessee Rose - loves 1,2
Kramer EMG 81 drop D - 1,2,3,4... - all channels are great here really and the best amp for me with my EMG - Ch2 is wild

Running through Bogner 4x12 V30

I would love to know someones opinion comparing the rear loaded V30 4x12 vs. front loaded V30 4x12. The VH4 can beat up V30 pretty well I assume so I am wondering about differnet speaker choices too. I will always have a V30 cab too.

Is that a Bogner Ecstasy Classic? What do you think about that amp compared to the VH4?

Yes sir - 2008 Bogner Ecstasy Classic (ordered with the can grill to match my cabinet ~ supposed to come in black) All available options class a/ab (although I never use class A) I run it in half power / old school mode and it sounds fantastic! :D

It's not going anywhere despite getting the VH4 today. The XTC classic is very organic, not as evil sounding, I run it in "tight" mode for the most part. I would half to say it is voiced in between my Soldano and Diezel. That probably doesn't help at all right? It's a bad ass amp and a different flavor. Anyone who says "this is better than that" in his league of amps really means what they like better.

XTC

VH4

I agree! They're all a different flavor...I've been GAS-ing for a Classic for a while...I would love to play one.

I'm happy for ya though :)

Did you happen to try an Einstein? I love mine...

You would love the XTC classic if you like your Einstein - I want one of those to!! :D

That is a serious arsenal you have there!

Wowzers! Congrats!

Gongas!!! and welcome to the club. I know I get flamed for it but IMO the VH4 blew away the herbert, even when I changed to the Winged SED El34's in my old herbert, just still did not sound as good to MY tone I want. What a waste of money for me. Hence why use the Vh4 for recording and the Vh4S i bring to rehearsal and it just fills up the whole room with using cabs on both sides. Sounds huge. Oh and I always loved how easy it was to dial in and love the channel inserts. I never use the serial or parallel loops. I am not an FX guy, just need my chorus pedal in the channel insert and will get a delay for ch 4's channel insert. :)

oh and I finally looked at the back of my Vh4 and it is an 07. Have not looked at the Vh4S yest as it in my garage in it's flight case but guessing it is old.
